We use TLC Pet food as recommended by our breeder. We've been very happy with the dogs on it. It is produced in Canada, and ships free in Canada and the US. It's currently about $59 (Cdn) for 34 lbs.

I asked my vet prior to switching to grainless (Tessa was no longer a puppy) - not that vets are any authority on dog food (nor dog training) - just to get his take on it, and he said it's not the protein or fat percentage that is all that important, he wants the food to be AAFCO approved (again nothing really that guarantees anything in my opinion, but...), balanced and most importantly, with the correct calcium-phosphorus ratio.

Okay so I need to reevaluate my feeding. Five cups a day of Exceed Professional is too much for a four month old ehhh? Not to mention the cup or two of boiled chicken?

Every dog is different but it does sound like you are feeding more than you have too...I have never fed more than 4 cups (I did that when they got active and lost some weight plus I did satin balls or can dog food)...I think the norm is 3-3 1/2 cups plus extras not necessarily every day...yogurt, cottage cheese, sardines, eggs, satin balls, chicken, raw meats ect...

I have an almost 4 month old (a week shy of 4 months) and I feed her about 3 - 3.5 cups a day. I am feeding her the same thing I feed my adults so it is a high performance dog food. The protein is 30% and fat is 16% and no grains.

Yeah we started him out on Iams Puppy but he didn't much care for it so we made the switch and he seems fine with the Exceed. I'll feed him what he eats for now being a pup but will watch the weight as he matures. He puts away five to six cups everyday and looks great, maybe a bit on the thin side

3 years ago, when Gator was a pup, I was feeding him Iams Puppy. At the time, we had an 11 year old shorthair, Kaiser, who was eating Purina 1 senior. The problem was, that they would switch food dishes. Originally, I switched them to regular Iams. That didn't work, they were both gassy. So I researched a number of websites, and decided upon Diamond. I chose the lamb & rice blend, as it provided a middle of the road amount of protein that would meet both the young and the old dog's needs. Later, I found out that Costco's food was made by Diamond. I determined that the money that I would save on the Costco Food would pay for the membership. However, it wasn't an economically sound decision, since everytime that we went to Costco, we would find "deals" on lots of other stuff, and would spend upwards to $200.00 each time.

A forty pound bag made sense when we had dogs, but since Kaiser's passing, I wanted smaller bags. So I decided upon Taste of the Wild. Costco has a similar food, I fed the salmon based food. I've decided not to renew my Costco membership, so I am now buying Taste of the Wild. Unfortunately, my local pet store, is going out of business, so before I buy the next bag, I will need to locate a new supplier.

I also switched my cats to no corn, wheat, soy and Costco has a good Cat Food that meets that criteria. We're almost out of that, so I need to research new food for them.

Gator gets table scraps with his evening meal. He very much likes vegetables, especially salad. Once a week or so, I either add sardines (not a whole can, as the cats get a sardine with their canned food) or mackeral for the benefit of the fish oil. A 3 1/2, Gator is still very active, and maintains his weight and boyish figure.

Thom,
your pup must be a poopamatic.
It must be excellerating his height and weight, as well.
I would slow down and be careful of the growth plates.

Thank you to all who posted I have decided to go with Diamond performance food...adult yes but equal in content.  Now I have heard some of you mention that you feed "people" food to your dogs, I have always been taught that was bad for your dog.  I was wondering is this somthing that I "should" be doing for a GSP??

Also I am feeding Birdie 3/4 cup morning, noon & 1/2 cup @ night for a total of 2 cups at nine weeks does this sound right or should it be 3/4 3x's daily?

I wouldn't feed "people food" from my plate -- and I don't. I do give the dogs, on a regular basis, yogurt, frozen carrots, raw meat, canned pumpkin (not pie filling), cheese (small amount as a treat). These are all specifically set aside for the dogs.

Nah we switched him over to hay, now he makes great fertilizer for the garden.  He looks good like I said, maybe a little on the slim side. I've been takin notice how much he is consuming. Two cups of Exceed Professional in the morn & eve with about a 1/2 cup of wet mixed in ea time. Total of five cups a day. Dropped off the chicken until the fox show up again and kills a few

Daniel has terrible food allergies & I have tried nearly every kind of food out there. I really liked Diamond Naturals (especially since Tractor Supply sells it cheap!) & so did they but it gave them such awful gas I couldn't stand it any more. Eagle Pack Lamb & Rice is what seems to work best for them, at least out of the foods I've tried so far. :)

Both of my dogs are nibblers rather than chow hounds. In the morning before I leave for work they get one cup of kibble mixed with something tasty (usually either plain full-fat yogurt or pumpkin) and then they free-feed kibble 24/7 when they are hungry. Now that I limit the amount of people food they get (naughty me let them eat too many leftovers!) they are both in shape, healthy & happy.

Tim - I sent you a pm, don't know if you got it.

Park by lake 30, but watch that you don't go back too far and get near the road.  I think the other spot was near lake 38 maybe.

I feed Gunner diamond naturals chicken and rice.  I was also thinking about switching hm to extreme athlete but have not done it yet.  I dont know what part of illinois you are in but they do sell diamond naturals and the extreme athlete  at Menards.  I would love to hear if the extreme athlete works because i also have a problem keeping wieght on Gunner especially during hunting season.  Also iwas wondering if anyone else has tried the extreme athlete.
