Allright Shorthairs gang!
Here is what I have been able to put together from all the responses so far and from the links and info others have posted.
We are planning to have a Shorthairs.com Meet Up at the Nationals during the first week of May 2011 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin!!!!!
Here are the people that are going:
Splat / Marcia and kids
Texas Belle / Bev
Marie
The RozyPozy
Maybes:
Navilla / Me, Dave, and son Logan – very strong maybe (It would only take us 7 hours to get there!!! Totally doable!)
JMSGunner
MainCreekRemi
MelB
Everbell
GHarner
Moose1
Anyone else??
The German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America is having it’s National Specialty Event in Wisconsin. The event runs from 4/30/2011 to 5/7/2011.
http://www.gspca.org/NSS/2011/
I know some of the members on here are doing some of the events, not sure which ones and what dates.
Bev said that spectators can come if you join the GSPCA – the cost is $37 for 1 year for an idividual but there are other options for families, Junior, etc. Find out more and join here:
http://www.gspca.org/Membership/dues.html
The event is suggesting you stay at the Olympia resort – the rooms are pretty reasonable!
http://www.gspca.org/NSS/2011/accommodations.html
Of course, there are plenty of other accommodations in the area.
Dave and I will be camping at the camground nearby if we go. This campground is 18.3 miles from the GSPCA event.
http://countryviewcamp.com/
There are also two dog parks nearby.
Nashtoah Dog Park is just 5.5 miles from the GSPCA event
http://www.dogparkusa.com/wisconsin/nashotah-dog-park
This dog park is about 26 miles from the GSPCA event and has a pond!
http://www.dogparkusa.com/wisconsin/terri-tinsley-dog-park-bicentennial-park
Once we get a better idea of who all is coming and when, we can plan more firm events, like when we can meet at the dog park, dinners, when people will be at the events, etc. And of course, we will have to have everyone come out the the camp ground and have a campfire with us!
I talked to Dave and we are going to sit down a look at a few things, but it sounds like he is on board!!
I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| It isn't up on the GSPCA website yet, but they will also have space for RVs at the resort. I am planning on pulling my fifth wheel and staying at the resort. |

I will be there and look forward to seeing everyone in person. Hope to be there by Monday, as there's a regional specialty on Tuesday. There will be lots of things going on at the showsite, so I'd suggest y'all not get too crazy with plans away from there until the schedule is actually up. Besides performance events, there's also futurity, sweepstakes and veteran sweepstakes as well as classes and Best of Breed competition. Anyone can come and watch and socialize, you don't have to be a member of the Parent Club. Looking forward to seeing Striker and how much he's grown up too..and don't forget to do that DNA for entry purposes y'all. Phyllis and the Singltrak Furtribe trying to figure out how to fit 6 dogs into 4 crates...LOL! |

I will be there for you Phyllis, Bev and all others from this forum with 2 free hands, no Rocky to give you a big Wisconsin welcome and to help out with 6 shorthairs in 4 crates if needed!! I am going to ask my dog loving friend Nancy who loves dogs as much as I do come with me from our town to travel with me too and we will be there to walk a restless shorthair in a crate who needs a potty break during the Nationals!!! |

I am thinking about getting there on Friday, 29 April, so I can run my puppy in the Hunt Test and maybe Ringo for SH if he is ready on Sat and Sun. Then will have Halo and Ringo entered in the Obedience trials starting on Tuesday and Fauna in the conformation competitions. So I will be pretty busy. The schedule is up at the link below, but does not have times for the events yet.
www.gspca.org/NSS/2011/
I am planning on being there all week and leaving on the 8th of May (Sunday).
Phyllis is right about the schedule. It is pretty packed for anyone who is competing. Right now I am not planning on competing in the Agility trial on Monday, but I know Roz will and several others. Other than that, I will be busy every day and from Tuesday on, I will have dogs entered in both Obedience and Conformation. |

I am planning to be there on Friday April 29th to perhaps do the hunt test, if not at least the water retrieve test as my Maple LOVES the water retrieve. I will also do the agility trial on Monday, but I suspect since it is GSP only, it will not take that long. And then do the obedience on Tuesday and conformation that week. I am thinking I am going to have to leave on Saturday, May 7th to make my drive back to South Louisiana to be ready for work that Monday.
If you have not joined the GSPCA, you should. They hold some great get togethers too during these events.
Right now I am planning to stay at the resort.

I will either be there friday night or Saturday morning...I will be doing my DNA test just after the Christmas crazies die down (my husband will be coming along too not just me and the boys, so Blitz and Stirker will be there) Stirker is doing something there but I am so new to this I couldn't tell you what it is or when it is but I know Phyllis will help me out with that, LOL! We plan on camping right at the event too! I am so excited! |

We are 16 hours away by car ... I'm probably going to have a CRAZY March the way it is looking ... if I build up some overtime, we MAY be able to come for a couple days, but it looks unlikely at this point. With the new house costs and all vacation being earmarked for the move, next year will be tight for travelling |

I looked it up on MapQuest and we're just over 10 hours by car...definitely not a deal breaker I'll have to do a little more research to see if it'll work with schedules and stuff...but it sounds like a lot of fun! |

I'm going to say this is a pretty strong yes for us! " align="absMiddle" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/blue/emoticons/smile.gif" />
As long as we can get off work and there isn't a Dock Dogs event that weekend (which I doubt there will be that early) we will be there.
I'm sure this is a given, but are my labbies welcome in this shorthair meet up? LOL This will be great to meet everyone!!! Get ready for the Brickle crew!! " align="absMiddle" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/blue/emoticons/smile.gif" />
Oh, and we would camp too! |

Looking forward to seeing everyone. And I second Roz's advice, if you aren't a member of the GSPCA please consider joining. It allows you to participate in all of the sponsored events at the Nationals and the dues go to a wonderful cause, all things shorthair, and you will get the Shorthair Journal so you can keep up with many of the great dogs in our breed. |

My tentative plan is to be there Wednesday for the futurity saying Tucson (our new pup) is nominated. Then I think we will just be doing the regular conformation on Friday. I will be leaving by some time on Saturday to be back for work Monday as well. This is IF all pans out well and we can get the time off work. I still have yet to look at what places to stay as I am cheap when it comes to hotels. So I might be at the Super 8. Will keep you all posted. |

Definitely bring the GSP siblings. Last year at nationals my friend came and brought her Rhodesian Ridgeback. He stood out, but everyone loved seeing him and he was a really good boy.
Glad to see there are several of us planning to be there. |

| So the easiest way to find me is to look for the fifth wheel with the Cougar on the side attached to a red Ford truck. Everyone is welcome to drop by and visit. I may even have a bottle or two of wine to share with good friends. |

Bev have you called over to the Olympia and got a site yet? I am thinking about doing it after this weekend?
Our camper and truck don't stand out as much as Bev's I have a pewter yukon xl (suburban) IL plates and a big white tag along surveyor camper....with kids probably glued to their nintendo DS's! Also glad to know we won't be the only ones with some wine on board...hubby will have beer too!
The pool does look good for swimming, I am sure we will be making a point of enjoying it at some point! |

Just want to talk about how Wisconsin people dress in early spring which includes the first week of May: We dress in layers. Not unusal to begin the morning wearing layered tee shirt, sweat shirt, topped with water, wind proof hood lined Spring Jacket. You would not be sorry to own one pair of fleece or flannel lined blue jeans in addition to warm pair of water proof boot shoes. Our Spring weather can be crazy. Yes we have have snow in May. Doesn't last long, Many of us don't shovel our walks right away in hopes if is does melt. Cabela's is a great company to order on the web for warm winter clothes. Fleece is the warmest over flannel. First week of May can go from the 20s to 80's. My best advice is to bring clothes where you can dress in layers so you can take it off or put back on depending how you feel when outdoors. I did view a wonderful hot tub when browsing the Olympia web site. Looks to have both an indoor and out door swimming pool. Click on the " Resort Spa Time" tab on the Olympia web site to see. |
