Bit of a trek for me i'm afraid! And Bentley definitely wouldn't be able to come which would be a shame. Hope you guys have fun if you do organise it though!!

Could do that yeah. It's funny how you guys are talking about driving for a couple of days to get to one of these meetings etc. Yet in the UK if we talk about driving for about 4 hours it's "The other bloody side of the world!!" :) Might be because end to end it takes about 6 hours haha.

In Texas it takes about about 16 to 18 hours to drive across. As they say, everything is bigger in Texas. ; )

This would be awesome to meet some of the members on this list.  We are planning to go.  Just like Bev, we have about a 16 hour drive from south Louisiana, but we had so much fun at the Nationals last year, we are planning to make the trek up north.  Will bring my two GSPs, Maple and Java.  Will be busy with all the events, but will make time to meet up with everyone too.

I will talk to my husband about it. It won't be a problem for me to get time off work since I am going to be part-time starting in Jan.

I know that this is still in the every early planning stages, but I think it could work!!!

Splat/Marcia - I know you are planning to pull the kids out.  Anyone else have issues with kids?

Allright Shorthairs gang!

Here is what I have been able to put together from all the responses so far and from the links and info others have posted.
We are planning to have a Shorthairs.com Meet Up at the Nationals during the first week of May 2011 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin!!!!!

Here are the people that are going:
Splat / Marcia and kids
Texas Belle / Bev
Marie
The RozyPozy

Maybes:
Navilla / Me, Dave, and son Logan – very strong maybe (It would only take us 7 hours to get there!!! Totally doable!)
JMSGunner
MainCreekRemi
MelB
Everbell
GHarner
Moose1

Anyone else??

The German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America is having it’s National Specialty Event in Wisconsin. The event runs from 4/30/2011 to 5/7/2011.
http://www.gspca.org/NSS/2011/

I know some of the members on here are doing some of the events, not sure which ones and what dates.
Bev said that spectators can come if you join the GSPCA – the cost is $37 for 1 year for an idividual but there are other options for families, Junior, etc. Find out more and join here:

http://www.gspca.org/Membership/dues.html

The event is suggesting you stay at the Olympia resort – the rooms are pretty reasonable!
http://www.gspca.org/NSS/2011/accommodations.html

Of course, there are plenty of other accommodations in the area.

Dave and I will be camping at the camground nearby if we go. This campground is 18.3 miles from the GSPCA event.

There are also two dog parks nearby.
Nashtoah Dog Park is just 5.5 miles from the GSPCA event

http://www.dogparkusa.com/wisconsin/nashotah-dog-park

This dog park is about 26 miles from the GSPCA event and has a pond!

http://www.dogparkusa.com/wisconsin/terri-tinsley-dog-park-bicentennial-park

Marie says she lives within an hour of the event. So Marie, are you up for hosting a dinner?? LOL You’ve been teasing us with all those pictures of the wonderful food you make all the time!!

Once we get a better idea of who all is coming and when, we can plan more firm events, like when we can meet at the dog park, dinners, when people will be at the events, etc. And of course, we will have to have everyone come out the the camp ground and have a campfire with us!
I talked to Dave and we are going to sit down a look at a few things, but it sounds like he is on board!!
I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I map quested Oconomowoc. where everyone will be staying, it is 88.37 miles from us. The Hunt test location on the water which is still tentitive is46.7 miles from us in Brownsville. Brownsville is really where real birdie hunt area. My Hubby, Tom hunted our first GSP , Poge in that area  Our small city , pop 5,000, has 3 pheasnt game farms. Rocky lives in an area made for GSPs. I can go out 20 yards in the fields behind us for Rocky to point and flush up a bird if needed.  I truely donot know about Oconomowoc WI. I did search their Dog Park web site and sadly found there is a 3 dollar fee for non residents for only a 2 acer blocked off section of their current park. .Dog parks in Oshkosh, Ripon and Appleton , WI we have visited with Rocky have never charged us a fee.  I don't know if there are any other dog parks or if the city of Oconomowoc will waive the fee for our Shorthairs....My plans are to come down to Oconomowoc to be at the GSP National Show to just experience and meet GSPS and their owners who are participating in the events. Learn all I  can. Rocky won't be with me as I do not have him trained to that competing level and his Senior Age. Rocky is comfortable in his own backyard birdie field invironment, playing with dummies, swimming in a spring fresh water Wisconsin lakes and hunting on a small game farms. No reason to bring him as when I go to the nationals I want to clearly focus and enjoy all the other GSPs, meet the wonderful breeders and people who put the time into training  their GSPs to be all they can be to participate in the events. It will also be fun to meet others like me who love GSPs, but we are not breeders, not going to show our GSPs or compete with them in Rally, Agility ect, but just live with GSPs as our house honeys!! Definitly excited to meet others on this forum while enjoying the moments of GSP Nationals for the first time experience for me.

I would LOVE to, but I have to use my vacation next year to go to my cousin's wedding in Scotland. Sign me up for the 2nd Annual shorthairs get-together in 2012, though! :)

Yep, a bunch of us did get to meet at this Nationals and it was so much fun. This year the Nationals are in Gettysburg and it is the 50th Anniversary of the club too. I know I am planning on going as are others, so I am hoping to meet some more social media friends. For 2014 we are back in Wisconsin, then 2015 is in Denver. All are in May, so mark your calendars. If anyone wants details go to gspca.org or PM me.

Great idea but not sure how it will work. Perhaps we can organise meet ups by area?
