| Ontario is what touches Michigan, and Minnesota. I would hate to fly a Pup as well but I am sure we can work something out if Diamond is interested! I know they would give a pup a great loving home for life! I would be proud to be able to get one of the pups to them. Here is where I live (Fruitport, MI) depending on where Diamond lives in Ontario we can surly work something out! |

Depending on the type of plane, there are restrictions on animals travelling at certain times of the year. If the cargo is climate controlled, then it's OK anytime. The smaller jets will not take dogs between November and April. I haven't shipped a lot of puppies but have never had any problems. They get out of their crate on arrival, needing to pee and happy to be there. I shipped a puppy in August 2006 from Ottawa-Vancouver which is about 4 1/2 hours on a direct flight. He was 8 weeks old and didn't even pee in the crate! Sure had to go when he got out though.... Ace, could you fly to MO and bring the puppy back as carry on? Southwestern Ontario is a bridge away from Michigan, I believe. I know Michigan is a large state but it may not be that far from Diamond to Moose? Gail |

I just looked in general to Ontario. I could get the pup up to Carp Lake, MI . That is where Bill lives. No preasure Billl.... Maybe Bill could then get the pup closer to Diamond. Then I could bring a pup to Bill on the way. HA HA! I wouldn't have a problem flying the pup if I could fly with it there and have it on the plane as carry on. It is just too cold out to have a pup going under a plane in a crate this time of year. |

I am trying to find out about that right now. I have seen people bring the little ankle biters in off the plane as a carry on. I am still waiting to here from the breeder as to what he finds out and why he won't fly it. I guess once I pay for her I could do what I want anyways. I'll let you know. It's just that my truck has 153,000 miles and I am a bit nervous about a 2,000 mile round trip. I am checking to see about having her shipped to the bottom of MI. Maybe I can meet someone there and take her home too. We'll see. From where I live to the bridge in Sault ST Marie MI it is an hour over the bridge. Beth is about 3 hours from me I believe. Not that far. I know to cross the bridge into Canada you need passports and vet records for the animal. I had to when we go through Canada into NY when we go to Mass as I usually take Mocha. |

I am thinking about getting my poochies passports. Does anyone know where to get animal passports? Bill do you need a passport for Mocha too or just you at this point for Canada? |

| We could probably work something out Beth. If I wasn't already commited I would take one myself. You are typing at the same time here so you are probably answering while/ before I am typing. Maybe Diamond could meet on the other side of the bridge or something. |

| I guess we will wait and see what Diamond says but we can make it work on our end. Then I can meet your wonderful kids! Maybe I could get my hubby to take the day off or make it a Saturday and I could bring a few of our poochies and our son and we can have lunch and romp in the snow for a bit. We will see what Diamond says! |

Dogs don't need passports to go from US-Canada but people will effective June 1st. To take a puppy across the border it would need a letter from the vet stating it was in good health and the vaccines that the puppy has had. Rabies is the usual requirement for transporting a dog across the border but in young pups (under 12 weeks), they don't require it. I regularly take my dogs to compete in flyball in NY and there is never a problem. My vet signs an International certificate which I show the customs agent. I have never driven a puppy but it would be the same. I have flown with them in cargo to the US (Air Canada does not allow any animals in the cabin) and the same thing, just show the vet's letter. | Looking in my Geography book (90's from college) Ontario especially south western part is over Minnesota. So I was wondering how far Tucker,Way North MN would be from where Diamond lives? If Tucker is close enough for Diamond to drive down to pick up the puppy, we could form a people host puppy travel chain. I think enough of us live on the route that each person would only have to drive a few hours to get the pup to the next person in the chain. Example: Moose travels the puppy to Lisa, GSP Rescue, Lisa head North and drops the pup to me in central WI, I then drive the pup to Ranger north west then Ranger drives the pup to the Twin cities and Twin cities person drives the pup to next closest person and finally gets the pup to Tucker where Diamond drives down to pick up his new puppy. Just an idea and the GSP puppy would not have to get on an airplane and no one would have to drive more than a few hours day trip. What do you think of that brain storm idea? |

| Vet letter is no problem. Thanks for the info as well on passports. Dock jumping is becoming soo big that I know soon we will head to Canada to compete but I don't know how much further we will go. Some teams go to Europe too! |

I think Diamond is near London, Ontario which is about an hour from Sarnia. There were dock diving events in southern Ontario in 2007. Too far for me though at 6+ hours drive.... Gail |

If you fly puppies during the winter, you must have a vet certificate stating the puppy is acclimatized to extreme temperatures, as well as being healthy. If they are too young for rabies vaccine then the certificate will state that. Even though shipping can be a bit of a pain, there are several airlines who are very accomodating for live animal shipping. Northwest is one of the best, Continental offers a very comparable service, as does Delta. You guys happen to live in a part of the country that is difficult to get animals in and out of because of the weather and temp. extremes but people do it. Look at all the dogs who'll be flying out mid-February for New York City and Westminster Kennel Club. Maybe contacting your local kennel club would give an idea of someone who might be flying south (or North) who could take a puppy along in the cabin. The gsp elist...(also known as gsp-l) and that's an L not a one, could also be a place to start also. FWIW, have been shipping puppies since 1992 and nothing more serious than a 10 minute delay in takeoff. But, much has changed since 9-11 and when my last arrived early December, he had been scanned and certified, etc...at takeoff and arrival. I don't quite get the refusal to fly, but to each his own, I suppose. Phyllis and furtribe (in very chilly 19 degree southern NM) www.singltrakshorthairs.com |

Bill, RVM transport of of Arkansas ships in cargo van such as a F350 van with out seats and has two attendents per van. That way the dogs get cared for and water/food.The van is climate controlled and alot less stressful than flying. My puppy left Arkansas on Monday night arrived Tuesday at 5:00 pm. Get a hold of me if your interested and I will get you a number. The price was $200.00 which is lots chaper than gas out there and back. |

| OHHH if Diamond is in London I could get the pup to the boarder no problem at all. That would be great if they are in that area! Not that I wouldn't want to go see Bill and his dogs but that is a more common route for me than going up north. |

That's kind of what I've been trying to do with my new pup too. I was thinking of having it shipped to lower MI like by Beth or further south and I could meet there to get her.
Any more thoughts on the get together Beth? I am for sure going to come down that way sometime this summer. I talk to Diane(Sage) about every other day and want to meet up with her too. I don't know of anyone else up here by me. There is someone who is upgsp but I don't know where they are.
Tarheel, please send me the info on the shipper. I am checking into any options besides trying to drive out that far. I am trying to see if I can bring her as a carry on. I think the drive might be easier on the pup but not sure. P>S> can you send me some more pics of Casey. She is soooo cute. Pointing already and everything. That is what I am hoping my pup will look like.
