This is the boy I have been writing about trying to get his DNA done and see if we can find a match for him. I know a lot of people can look at a dog and say "Yup... That comes from this or that bloodline... " So I thought I would take a stab in the dark and see what I come up with.

Beth

Why are you trying to find out who he is out of? Are you trying to find the breeders to see if they will take him back? Where did you get him from? Is he nuetered? He has a nice deep chest on him & looks like he has been a ggod runner from your last picture showing good muscling.

Dottie-
I try to find out as much as possible about who the dogs come from. He is honestly one of the first dogs that had shown up in a shelter or not brought to us with out registration papers. I always contact the breeder first to make sure they are aware of the dog coming into rescue and if they want them back. As I also plan to have a small breeding opporation I would want to know if any of my pups ever went into a shelter or rescue as I would take them back. No he is not fixed yet. What I think happened is that he got away from a trainer or a facility for training etc. as he has very good house manners and knows general commands in the home.

From what I can see in the pictures he is a very nice looking boy. I know I would miss him if he were mine. I once heard of an owner being on a camping trip & had lost their dog (GSP) that was found almost 5 years later wondering the woods in the same area they had went camping that year. Wouldn't that be nice if the owners were able to re-claim such a nice boy?

It would be. I have yet to be able to figure out what newspapers print in that area. I am going to try and search lost and founds over the next week or so. I would hate to get him fixed then have his owner be able to find him and him be a great sire dog for a wonderful program as he would be :-) of course after health stuff... but that is neither here nor there. Got to get to that point first. :-) I have one breeder who says he looks like he may be out of their lines but couldn't tell from pics for sure and they are in Arizona for the winter. We will see and we will keep a tight rein on him til we figure as much out as possible to make sure he doesn't breed anyone!

I know this is a long shot but on another forum(coondogs) they were talking about 4 labs and a gsp being stolen from new london minnesota (near willmar). I know that it is 12 hours from where you are but you never know.

He looks kind of like one of the lost dogs on Lisa's Wisconsin board. Same tail length and color.

That male, Dax went missing from Eau Claire WI area. He thinks stolen. Was unaltered. Have not heard if he was ever found. But he was more all liver looking. Pic is still up on Lost Dog Allerts www.wgspr.com

Owner info is on the post.

Lisa-
I may try contacting them and see if they recognize him at all. I think he isn't as liver as the picture shows but maybe it was a bad pic too. Thanks!

Beth, Can you keep us posted if you find out any info on this boy? I'd sure like to know what lines he has too with that nice chest of his. With him being so friendly like you say & also being in-tact I would think someone would be missing him. Have you contacted any other rescues for GSP in your state or any states near by? They can travel quite a distance if they want to, look at Lassie. (LOL) Will he let you do his nails?

I will find out what his foster family says about the nails. I am not sure on that one. Didn't try them the 24 hours he was here. I will let you know what we find out. Normaly I would fix him right away but I do have a breeder here in MI that says they think he may have come from their lines but wants to see him in person and they are in Arizona for the winter. We will see and I will keep you all posted!

Beth,
The last picture is a very nice one even though it's kinda dark. I love the look of him. How tall is he? I wish I could get a better look at the top of his head. One thing I can say for sure is he looks more to have the German lines from the pics. Does he have all of his parts. Is he with you? Can you get some better pics of his head & face for me? He doesn't look very old, maybe 4 or 5 at best from the pics. It sure would be nice if you did find out where he came from. Let me know if you get any info. I can make some calls for you to a few people if you'd like. How did you come about him?

He is probably 23-24 inches at most. Not huge but not small either. What kind of picture would be good for the top of his head? Are you looking for "the bump"? He does look German bred to me as well. He is in tact and will be back with me in the next day or so as his foster to adopt family wants to move on as he is gun shy. We went into it knowing that could be the case but I am willing to work with him on it. I will get better pics when he is back. The dark one is from my cell phone as my camera betteries had died. Make whatever phone calls you want to make! That would be great. He came from the Monroe Co. Animal Shelter. Thanks!

Hi Beth,
I noticed that your post on the boy came back up today so thought I would ask if you have had any luck with your search yet. What did you find out about him letting the foster home do his nails? How does he get along with other dogs or people? All these things can determine if someone is out looking for their dog and just hasn't found him yet. Have you posted adds in your local papers about him being found or called other shelters to see if someone has reported him missing? In our area they allow lost and found animal ads to be placed for free for 1 week.

Dottie-
He actualy came from an animal control across the state. We pulled him from the shelter so he wouldn't get put down. So I am not even sure where to start advertising at this point. He is great with all sorts of people (children, young and old) he is good with other dogs. Typical male adolescent that he will tell the other males at my home to mind their space but no big issues. He is fine with our cat. Just sniffs her and walks on. I never did find out about his nails. But my dogs hate having their nails done so if that was a determening factor I best watch out. Tee Hee! I also am not sure where to look to see if anyone had reported dog missing in that area. Thanks for the advice on that as well. I wish I knew where to begin with papers and ads but I don't live over there. It is about 3 hours from here.

Actually I was looking for the shape of his head to see if it's more of the square style with the shorter muzzle or the narrower style with the longer muzzle. Neil & Louise Ritter breed there babies with that wonderful square, German looking head like my Rose has. Certain breeders have what I would call a signature in their breeding styles. Some like to have a certain head style, some like darker or lighter dogs. Some try to get really white ones, or Roan or ones with the saddle. There are a lot of different things that some of us can see if different dogs to make them more recognizable as being from a certain line. I'd love to get to meet him in person. That sure would make things a lot easier to try to see if he's firmiliar looking or not.
