My two dogs got out of the fence and ran away from my Wife today at 12:30 PM in Midland, Pa.  They ran into the woods, We called the local police but I need to know the next steps what to do.

One is Wyatt 2yo GSP (has chip) ticked with liver spots and the other is Maverick 1yo Mix White with brown and black mask over his eyes.

I am going crazy so let me know what I can do.

just quickly off the top of my head - check all local animal shelters, post a Craig's List ad, check with local vets. If Wyatt's chip is Home Again, report him lost. They also have a service that sends info to local vets or at least gives you a list of them so you can mail them. If Wyatt's chip is AVID, report him lost with AVID. Make lost dog posters to put up. Find the best photos that you can. Write up a letter/lost dog poster to send to all local vets and animal shelters. Call all your neighbors that you know. Leave your old, smelly clothes or blankets outside so they can smell them and find their way home.

Midland looks to be north of the Ohio River so I would concentrate your search efforts north of the river. But don't discount the south side. Unless there is a bridge, I wouldn't expect them to cross.

Good luck! This is no fun. I never did find my Terra back in 2008. Met lots of nice people but didn't find her.

definately Craigslist, telephonepole.com is another good one, flyers around town, call local vets and let them know, and any animal shelters in the area.

I sure hope they come home on their own soon!!!!!!!!

Make posters & hang at busy places, grocery stores, feed stores, local schools (kids are always running everywhere!!) etc, as well as what was said about calling vets, shelters. Good luck & hopefully they will return on their own accord soon!!!!!!!!!!

I would also put a blanket or shirt or towel (something familiar to them with the family smells) out in the vicinity where they got out. Often they will pick up the scent and return and be sleeping on the blanket. Check with neighbors in the area. And if you have a postman or paper boy let them know and ask them to let you know if they see them.

Nate,

Send me photos and I will send to Oakridge membership. Also talk to local vets and leave a picture, find out who the dog warden is in your area and contact him. Contact local shelters and put flyer at nearby stores. I went through this over the summer. I will aslo get word to the GSP of Pittsburgh club and you should contact Deb Orpan of GSP rescue in PA she is very helpful and posts here and can give many suggestions.

ugggh.  Every once in a blue moon River gets out and it is nail biting until he comes back home (and he always has none the worse for wear).  Feeling your pain brother.  Best of luck.

Man Nate, I was hoping they had already come home. As a suggestion, SPECIFY they are Micro-Chipped on your posters and perhaps go so far as to mention they are DNA'ed. Someone thinking about keeping them will 2nd think it if they see your posters and see that info.
I'm praying for good news from you soon.

Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail.

Have you posted signs at the supermarkets, convienence stores and talking to the postman?

Do you think they will stick together?

I bet someone has picked them up by now.

We posted at supermarkets, gas stations and my wife has been driving around talking to folks in the neighborhoods. The posters mention that they are microchipped. Another friend posted something on a facebook page for our local area "ohioville" and there was a response saying they saw them about 2 miles from my house at dusk the day they got away. They would be headed towards Brighton Twp/Chippewa/Beaver area?

Thanks for the well wishes, I am pretty well bent.

Ditto what bravepoint said, I keep checking to see if they have been found.  Pray they both find their way home soon.  I had an escape artist dog once, and thankfully with some really great people that live in our area, she was never lost for long.  Hoping these pups run into someon who cares to get them back safe.

Roz.
