I finally found some plain organic yogurt and some cottage cheese...

So now I need to know how much of each and how often should I feed it?  Blitz is 1yr and we will be getting the new guy so he will only be 9 weeks...

when Bo was a pup we would stuff a baby kong with frozen carrots, spoon yogurt into the gaps and freeze. Probablyy amounted to no more than a 1/4 cup.

Now we give the dogs a 1/2 cup 3 to 4 times a week. Don't know if this is a "recommended" amount, but they like it and it doesn't seem to hurt.

I love the Greek Yogurt that is made by Dannon...so the pups get to have that mixed in with their food often too...adds good acidophilus and other bacteria to their diet. Always get the full-fat tho...no point in fat free for them anyway....(me now, that's another story!-ROTFL!)

Just a couple spoonsful on top or mixed in to the kibble works well...

I saw that greek kind and wondered about it, so now I know I could do that...

I was kinda thinking a couple spoonfuls so I did do that on Blitz's this morning with his kibble....then I thought I better check and see how much, I guess that was backwards!

So I am thinking maybe every other day...

I started giving mine regular plain yogurt everyday with their evening meal. I give a heaping tablespoon. I started this when Halo got pregnant to give her the good bacteria, fat and calcium and, of course, the rest wanted some too. I was glad I did too because she was on antibiotics after the c section and she had no digestive problems at all. So, I am planning on just continuing the yogurt on a regular basis. As for cottage cheese, I give them that about once or twice a week and usually a couple of tablespoons. It is not as beneficial as the yogurt, but is a good source of fat and calcium.

Yeah, I was thinking about that Phyllis. What I was talking about in my post was the adults. Do you think I could dull down those puppy teeth if I left out the yogurt. LOL, they are very mobile now walking and eyes are open. Next come the teeth. Yikes!

I don't think it will happen Bev....I've considered a dremel for the teeth as well as for the nails...(those get done every other day from about 5 days) Ever wonder why they call them "milk teeth"...that's gotta be horrible for the moms to have all those sharks after ya....:) (not remembering those days fondly...sorry, TMI I know!)

I have been doing toenails. Poor Halo, 11 little monsters with those toenails, but hey are pretty good letting me file them. Just takes forever with 11. I can't imagine all the shark teeth. Ouch!!

If you're doing your own vaccinations, just wait - that's really an hour long job with 11 !

Osiris gets cottage cheese, yougurt, or an egg in his food each night. I thought I was the only one who did the cottage cheese and yogurt. I figured it was good for the pup so I started doing it! Glad to know others do it too!

Mine get full fat plain yogurt with their breakfast every morning. I've never measured it out, but I would guesstimate that it's 2-3 tablesppons & they love it.

I knew the yogurt did good thing for the digestive system so I really wanted to do that...

The cottage cheese I wanted to do to help with some fat cuz Blitz has so much energy and burns fat easily...but I wanted to be careful about how much dairy I give him cuz I hear that can be bad...

Every once in a while I do give the dogs egg...I have done that with all my dogs through the years...

The whole egg gets scrambled here. Dogs don't get high cholesterol...:) Most of the time I just toss an extra egg in with mine...and try to not give them the green chile that is mixed in. (tales from the Desert Southwest where nothing can be eaten without chile !)

Scrambled here. When Halo went into labor and wouldn't eat anything else, she would still eat scrambled eggs. Fed her that for about a 24 hour period before she started eating her other food.

That's nice.

Usually I give only liquids and (confectioner's sugar) donuts...sugar, calcium, ....:) but I suppose if they will actually eat anything that solid then whatever works for you....
