My mom and dad came over tonight to visit Halo and the puppies.  My parents were holding Rose and my dad put her in his pocket.

That might be the cutest freaking picture of all time

Is Halo doing ok with people handling her babies?

Oh yeah, she has no problems, but she does check them out thoroughly when they get put back into the whelping box. She and I also count puppies frequently to make sure they are all there. That makes her feel better.

Jean - That is Rose, my little bitty puppy. She is still a good 3 ozs smaller than the rest and about 1/2 the size.

She looks plump in the photo. What's her weight now? And what was she at birth?

She was probably just gestationally younger than the others...

Jean - She was 8.2 ozs when she was born and is now 11 ozs. However, she is about half the size of Red girl who is my biggest right now. The vets said that gestationally there could only be about 24 hours between when an egg is fertilized because that is the period when the eggs are viable. She felt like the difference was in where she attached to the uterine horn. The smaller puppies usually end up on the end where they do not get the best nutrition. In any case, Rose is growing like a weed, never misses a meal, and has figured out that if she dives under her brothers and sisters she can knock them off of their nipples and take over.

Interesting, my vet said that there could be several days between conceptions. Hmmm. Will have to research that one when I have time (HA!). It sounds like Rose is doing just fine then. She's doing exactly the same thing our JuneBug did. She was 9 oz at birth and is and always has been the toughest, most persistent damn dog I've ever known (which is why she's also the best meat dog I've ever known). The kids called her "Scrappy" when she has a baby. She's not a fighter, just a problem solver. Put an obstacle in front of her, and she'll keep at it until she finds a way around.

The runts are always tough

This picture is just too cute for words.

Is Rosie the one that you are going to keep?

Barbara - I haven't made up my mind yet on which one I will keep, but it will be one of the three girls. Too early to judge the pups yet on much. Their personalities are emerging though which is fun.

Tessa - Rose is such a sweetheart, but she is a little fighter too. She is half the size right now of her brothers and sisters, but she dives under the puppy pile and pushes them off of the nipples and grabs her share on the milk bar. She is also adding weight fast. She just has allot further to go than her brothers.

Now that's a picture!

That is way too cute. My former dog Clio (the GSP from H*ll) was the runt of her litter and was as stubborn and determined as you can imagine. My mom always said it was because "she got the left hind titty" as a pup and was gonna make up for it!
