They do leave a space when they go. A dog is only as good as we raise it, so you guys must be great parents.

Sorry to hear about yet another loss for you. She went out on her own terms - I wonder, does it make it a little easier to accept? I never had a dog that did this, and spared us that last dreaded appointment. Well I'm sure it is plenty hard, regardless. I will keep you in my thoughts.

In some ways, I found it harder. I've never had to bury a dog's body, and that was really hard. More importantly, I didn't get to officially say goodbye. Either way, it's painful.

I don't know...either way you look at it, it's awful. And yet, we agree to go through it again with the next dog, which goes to show how much they make up for the grief at the end.
