My vet has seen too many reactions to the Lepto vaccine so he no longer offers it routinely, only if a client requests it. Since Tessa once had a reaction possibly to that vaccine she no longer gets it, but this makes me rethink. I think they can catch it in lakes, ponds and streams that are used by wildlife and livestock.

Good luck with Donner!

sorry to not update you sooner...we did bring Donner home this morning. The vet wasn't sure if staying another night would really help, he had shown no signs of improvement...if money didn't matter he would have said maybe another night give it a try...but then he remembered how Donner hated it there for his neuter and how depressed he looked while there now, so he said maybe his spirits would be better at home with his family. So we brought his meds home in pill form.

He did decided to pee and throw up in the suv on the way home, but it was on the plastic mat in the cargo area, so cleaned up wasn't too bad. He had some water but I think he over did it and he threw that up on to his paws cuz he was laying in his kennel/cage. I had to leave to IN with the horse trailer to pick a horse up for a friend, so Donner stayed with my husband and kids during the day. He just stayed in his kennel resting. My husband would give him a few licks of water every few minutes or so and he seemed ok with that. My husband went to work night shift and the boys went to a friends. Wehn I got home Donner wagged his tail and stood up. It looked like he peed in his kennel (I took his nice pillow out and just have a towel in it so I can wash easier and just swap them as needed). I cleaned his kennel and put a new towel in, gave Donner his pill, some water and gave him a spnge bath cuz he was looking gross from throwing up on his paws fom earlier (we had just wiped them cuz we didn't know how much more wuld happen) and peeing in his kennel. He did go out and potty which means he made it down the deck stairs. Afterwards he went over by the dog pool (which I have upside down so that he can't get water from it) so I brought him in, I carried him cuz he laid down outside and gave him some more water. It might have been too much water cuz he kinda was acting like he was gonna throw up so I brought him outside, it was dark and he went under the deck so I couldn't really tell if he did. I got him back inside and he has settled back down...I have some ice cubes in a bowl for him to lick on incase he gets thirsty during the night. I have him blocked in the kitchen with a few towels laid down...

Sorry so long...verdict something is up with his liver...mouse poison? infection? some other toxin? he has no brusiing that would show up from mouse poisoning...no fever...outrageously high liver counts (I forget the actual names for the things that are high...but they are super high...

Poor little guy, sounds like he's having a rough time of it. :(

There is a prescription canned food that is designed specifically for liver problems in dogs: Hill's (or Science Diet) L/D I think is what it's called. Fresh squeezed lemon is also supposed to be very good for liver problems as well... not sure how to tempt him into drinking lemon juice, though, maybe mixed into food or water?

Lemon juice...interesting I might have to try it if we get the time...

He did throw up last night and I got up around 4 am cuz I heard him up...I snuggled him some and got him his pillow bed instead of the towel...He didn't want any water or food...so I left ice cubes in his bowl...

The cubes and or melted cubes were gone this morning so he either ate or drank them. He had moved off his pillow to lay just on the floor flat out on his side...didn't pick his head up or anything when Blitz and I got up. Didn't want water either.

So not looking good at all. Gonna give him his pills in just a little bit...

Please keep Donner in your prayers. Marcia is calling the vet for advice since he wouldn't take his pills.

In humans the liver is the only organ that can repair itself. If it is poison tho, I'm not sure.
Is the liver working? Is it hard and/or swollen? Why the liver and not the kidneys? Just brainstorming?
He will need to be on a very low fat diet. The liver will need to be "warmed" at waking and before each meal. A bit of Apple cidar vinegar will do this but make it no more than a drop or 2 - his stomach is empty and he would need a child's dose besides. Garlic is good - again - can burn the stomach so go small. Lemon is good as well but will again burn the stomach - this would be my lat choice. Low fat, easily digestible foods, preferably so he doesn't have to chew - small amounts. I would go with white rice mash for food - water does make even humans throw up when sick so try gatorade or something like that.
give him a big hug

Unfortunately, Marcia just posted on Facebook that Donner has passed. Please keep the family, esp. Marcia's two young boys, in your prayers.

Marcia and family - saw the post on FB and responded there, but wanted to again express how sorry I am for your loss. We all know how much your family loved Donner.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Donner.  My thoughts are with you and your family.  It is so hard to see our dogs go to that rainbow bridge.
