Donner started throwing up whatever he ate on Saturday...then last night he didn't eat dinner and he didn't eat this morning...Plus he is just wanting to lay around and not play...So I am gonna take him into the vet today to see what is up...
I don't think he ate anything he shouldn't have cuz I have not found anything damaged...could have eaten some stick or something outside though... |

Amazing what these guys eat. The usually get over it in a day or so Mine ate a load of that nasty black swamp mud once. What a ride home that was. Can anyone tell me what is even remotely attractive about swamp mud? And don't tell me he's lacking something in his diet like MUD Did he get into some grass and clean out his belly? Your puppy will be fine I'm sure |

| Gunner: My old dog loves to eat mud every now and again. Maybe it helps sooth an upset belly? She has taught Max how to do it as well. Very annoying! |

Hope he is feeling better soon. Let us know what the vet says. As for what these dogs will put in their mouths, it never ceases to amaze me. My mom was watching my dogs one evening and they were snacking on the leaves of an edible plant. My mom turned to me and said, don't you feed them enough? LOL, they eat like horses, but they love to get into other stuff too. |

Vet didn't see anything stuck in his belly or intestines....so they are running blood test now...Gave him some meds to stop vomiting and they pumped fluids into him cuz he was starting to get dehydrated...
They gave me a canned dog food that is blan so I am to try to feed him a couple spoonfuls now... |

ugh! I remember doing that when one of my cats had surgery. I had to feed her via a syringe ... more ended up on me and the furniture than in her. Hope he's feeling better soon... |

| Poor baby!! Hope he gets to feeling better. I am sure your vet is checking for giardia and coccidia, but you might also have them do a culture for salmonella. Have they put him on a broad spectrum antibiotic? If he doesn't like the food the vet suggested (mine never would eat the bland pet food), you might try boiled chicken and rice. Also, pumpkin helps settle tummies. Good luck with your boy and keep us posted. |

Hope he's better better soon. Try some gatorade or the like. He must be hungry about now. Do you think he can keep down well cooked white rice in some warmed chicken broth? Let us know how he's doing. |

If I were you (and I'm not a vet though I certainly have gotten many a lecture on this very thing), for the time being stick with just sub-Q fluids, pedialyte and do not feed him..let that stomach rest. If you start feeding (or offering) him everything then you are likely to wind up with irritable bowel syndrome in addition to whatever is going on now...I doubt he is hungry, but sometimes they will eat or try to and wind up vomiting that too...more irritation. Hope he feels better really soon...and pumpkin (if you can find it) is a great bland food...don't get the pumpkin pie mix...just canned pumpkin. Good luck with his continued recovery! I second that, would stick with just liquid foods, "pumpkin soup" (pumpkin mixed with water and pedialyte) for another day or so at least, then slowly adding the bland food or rice to the "soup". Chicken broth is a good way to add flavor to water which may entice the dog to drink (Tessa won't touch pedialyte unless it's mixed with food or pumpkin). My vet gave me a big syringe and I use that to force in pedialyte, in small but regular increments, if she doesn't drink. Dogs can go without food for a while but need to stay hydrated. These little tricks work as long as they don't throw up or have diarrhea which speeds up dehydration. Good luck and keep us posted! |

Nothing good to report... Donner is spending the night at the vet to get his system flushed...his blood is not clotting and it is pointing to something messed up his liver...possibilites (but they are so slim) is mouse poison, another toxin or some disease from killing a wild animal (can't recall the name but think it begins with an L and it can effect humans too!)...Vet is not sounding very positive about any kind of treatment....though Donner will also be getting the K1 shot which is for blood clotting/mouse poison... Our option was to bring him home and give the K1 ourselves I guess orally which would have been pretty tough with him not wanting to eat or to stay the night and get flushed and antibiotics incase his live has an infection and the K1...expenses are tight so we are hoping for a miracal tonight... I had to carry him from the waiting room to the exam room cuz he just wanted to lay down... |

We have had trouble with Lepto around here and a different strain than what is typically seen. The vet added another vaccine for the dogs and we are going to go back for the booster in a few weeks.
Taker care of your pup and look forward to the good news that Donner is feeling well again. |
