Anyone have the 3/8 prong on their collar? i have 1/2 inch ones that came with it. I just don't think a 1/8 is really gonna make a difference. Just would like to know if anyone else has this problem? He only wears it when we are out other wise i take it off. He wears it for a few short hours and it makes it all red.

Yes, I have the same problem. Any kind of collar rubs the hair off my girl's neck and I work around it by using collars sparingly or walking her in a harness - it helps. However, the e-collar cannot be avoided and everytime she wears it she develops the bald spot.

We have the Dogrta E-collars for all of our dogs and have replaced all of the contacts with stainless steel acorn nuts and washers. These nuts are more rounded than the contacts supplied with the collars and do not cause our dogs any irritation from being worn all day long.

Back when Gator was a puppy, I was at work one night, and when I got home, my husband complained of Gator barking and waking him up. So to pacify my husband, I went to Petco, and bought a bark collar. The instructions indicated that continual wear could lead to open areas and possible necrotic tissue.

I never did use the collar, in part because of the risk of necrosis. Actually, the barking wasn't a constant issue, my boys only barked at night if there was something to bark at. In fact, the next time that he barked at night and woke my husband, my husband looked out the patio door, and found a couple of guys trying to break into his van.

this was our weekend of using the ecollar on joey and she has some bare spots on her neck as well. I'm thinking of doing as cooperdog suggests and replace the contacts with acorn nuts. I have the sd400 I noticed they also make this: http://www.gundogsupply.com/casportdogshort.html

but pretty expensive for what it is

cooperdog, that may sound like a stupid question, but where's the best place to look for such small acorn nuts? Any hardware store?

I found the stainless steel acorn nuts and stainless steel washers at Home Depot. You may need the washers to build up the base so that the acorn nuts can be fully seated and tightened down. On the dogtra collars I use, it required 2-3 washers under each nut.

good tips cooperdog--- We definitely don't need the big prongs with our shorthairs. I will go to home depot in the next few days and report back.
