I noticed the last few days that my dogs neck has been kind of red and the hair seems to be thinner. I thought it may just be the fact I have had the ecollar on her more the last few weeks. Well today I noticed the skin on her chest and one leg seem red and irritated with thinning hair. I am not sure if the hair is thinning or it just looks that way because of the redness and she is a shorhair with a white coat. I figure it may be some sort of contact dermatitis and starting putting hydrocortisone cream on her this morning to see if it helps. Anybody ever experience anything like this? Also she is on a cream for a yeast infection in her ears, but I don't think that could cause it.

I ran into a similar problem with my oldest shorthair, Belle. Turns out she was allergic to beef, but it manifested itself in skin rashes that would turn into skin infections. Once I changed her diet the problem went away entirely. Not saying that is what is going on with your pup, just my experience with a skin rash and a shorthair.

It is interesting  you say that.  This all kind of started when I decided to buy the Pro Plan Beef and Rice instead of the usual Chicken and Rice.  I wouldn't assume there is much difference, but maybe that could be the cause.  I switched back to Chicken and Rice last night to eliminate that as a possibility.

You might also want to take him to the vet and have them do a skin scrape and check to make sure it hasn't turned into a bacterial skin infection. If it has it will take antibiotics to get it to clear up. I will be curious to hear if it does get better with the switch back to his original food.

Does the pup go in Chlorine? Gunner gets red itchy bumps after being in the pool if he doesn't get a bath right away...

Good luck!

Have you had him out in the sun a lot? My shorthair gets sunburned pretty easily if he's just out laying in the yard, soaking up the rays.
