Today Phoenix goes in for her elbow and hip x-rays and to also pull her Thyroid test. Once all those come back will just have her CERF (eye's) to finish up before we decide when to breed her. This has been such a fun journey going through all the health testing and learning about each one! Now I just have to sit back and be patient for results. I will try to post pics of the x-rays later tonight for you to all see.

All I want to know is does Phoenix know you published her see through photos? LOL, Good luck on the results, but I am sure they will come out fine.

Looks like your Vet did an excellent job of positioning her Beth. Sedate or not?
Now for your longgggg wait for results! ;-) Always seems like it takes forever LOL!

No sedation Bruce. They try first with out and if they get a good x-ray then won't sedate. If they wiggle and won't co-operate they then sedate lightly. They said right now it has been taking about 2-4 weeks to get hip results and then the thyroid stuff normally comes back in about a week. So we will see. I put a tracking number on the package to OFA so that I can track when it at least gets there! LOL.

No kidding. There may be some privacy issues involved here. Better hope there are no attorneys on this board.

MOOSE would you share your vets name? I am looking for a vet that doesn't put the dog out to Xray if not needed. Anyone here know of one in PA area?

Our vet will do the same- try to give x-rays without sedation first if you request it. JoeyBean had no problem, multiple times without sedation. I wouldn't trust a vet who defaults to sedation personally.

For Haiko the vet went straight to sedation and I believe that's why he got a good and not excellenct....but - I'm his mother.

For Bregon we have not done hips yet b/c I can't find a vet who will not sedate.

JoeyBean - I am near Albany every weekend - can you give me the name of your vet?

Thanks,
Francine
I almost forgot - nice x-rays.

francine-

We go to Shaker Vet, its right by the Albany Airport. I HIGHLY recommend seeing Dr. Scott Cherry. After seeing lots of vets in the area when Joey broke her leg at 4 months he is a standout. We actually went to an orthopedic surgeon (specialist vet 45 mins away) who insisted on sedating Joey to PUT A SPLINT ON, needless to say that's when we found Dr. Cherry (thru another personal recommendation) and pretty much immediately switched to them as our primary vet. We have since met with other doctors in the practice and all have been good. Worst part is that it can take a long time in the waiting room as its a very busy place.

I can't speak for anything regarding reproduction tests or whatnot, but as a general vet A++ .  Big bonus is they are open saturady and sunday and you dont have to pay emergency vet $$$

Another great vet in the area is Parkside.  We went there first but they didn't have an orthopedic specialist.

mrspwgunny - Only if you are going to breed him and not before he is 2 years old.

Like Bev said if you are interested in breeding him then hips would be a smart thing to do. It is up to you if you want to do OFA or Penn Hip. They are two different organizations. Both with their benefits and downfalls. If I had the money this time around I would have done OFA and Penn Hip as I really love how Penn Hip does more angles. Penn Hip can also be done younger than 2 years old where OFA you can not get an "official" rating til 2. You can get prelims done through OFA before 2.
