My Flatcoated retreiver died in his sleep yesterday afternoon. I knew this day was coming but it still hurts. He was a bit over 13 years old. Everyone hug your own dogs 1 extra time today. Dan

Very sorry for your loss. Even expected it never comes easy. I always wish that mine would go in their sleep though rather than have to take them in for the shot.

Sending my sincere condolences to you and your family Dan. In February, we lost our almost 14 year old Shorthair, he too died in his sleep. It's hard to say goodbye to a dog that's been part of your life for so many years. Only time will heal your broken heart. Your flat coat provided you with many years of companionship and unconditional love. That said, in hindsight, it was a blessing for us that our Kaiser died in his sleep. He was home, with family. That's how I would like to go myself. It's sad that we only have them for such a short period of time, as compaired to our lives.
