Have had Zelda for going on 8 weeks now and some things are getting better and others worse. Can't get her to sleep through the night anymore. As soon as she hears any noise she is up and won't go back to her bed. If I crate her, as we started out doing, she goes wild in the crate sometime settling down after 10-15 minutes. Other times there is no settling down. Not quite sure how to handle this.

Anyway here is a quick video of feeding both dogs, somewhat under control. Excuse the poor video, I am getting used to a new toy, my I-Kams.

First, very nice job with the feeding ritual. Very similar to the one I use with my dogs, especially my boy. I also loved that you didn't let them cheat. You made them go back and sit when they got up. Keep up the nice job.

As for the sleeping, where does Zelda sleep? What kind of noises wake her up? Have you tried leaving a radio on to mask some of the noises? Do you want to get back to using the crate as her place to sleep, or do you just want her to sleep through the night? I know allot of questions, but they will help in answering.

I wish I had a video of when Zelda first arrived. She would run back and forth between both bowls and eat at least 4 times as fast as what she does now.

As for the sleeping. If Zelda is out of the crate she has a bed in our room at the foot of our bed, as does Meeka. We live on a fairly busy 4 way intersection so a loud motorcycle, people talking if we have the window open will arouse her. Meeka wakes up also but goes right back to sleep. Zelda will pace between the window, her bed and our bed and never settle down again. Several times she did settle down but most often not. I usually will get up and put her in her crate, which is downstairs in the living room. She will fuss for about 5 minutes and then go back to sleep. Can't say the same for me. We really just want her to sleep through the night or at least settle down if she is aroused by something.

We would like to leave her out of the crate at night as she spends most of the week days in the crate. Although she does like her crate as she will go in by herself in the evenings when we sit down to watch TV or eat dinner.

Thanks for your interest and any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.

If you can sleep with the radio of TV on I would try that. It will mask allot of outside noise. Also, move her crate upstairs. I suspect she fusses because she is used to sleeping in your room and knows you are up there. Then you can put her in the crate and I doubt she will fuss. You might want to just get another crate so you don't have to haul it around the house. Can she see out the window? If so I would close the drapes or blinds so she can't see out as they will often stay up watching and not settle back down.

Crate is moved to the bedroom. Going to try that before leaving on the radio. I can sleep with noise but the significant other doesn't like it.

We are going to leave her out of the crate and if she starts pacing, then put her in the crate in the room. Hopefully you are correct and she won't fuss when near us.

Thanks for the advice. I will keep you posted in the near future.
