I'm interested to hear if anyone's used the collars or diffusers for calming dogs, and if so how successful were they.  Rupert's just started whining on and off when he's left with no particular pattern which obviously we didn't realise as he's quiet when we leave and quiet when we come home.  It's too hot a lot of the time for them to come and be left in the car, so my OH always comes home at lunch if they're gonna be left for a few hours to play fetch etc but the neighbour complaned yesterday so obviously need to try something new.  As it's only a few hours at a time (4max) and dog sitters would charge about $40 for 2 dogs for that time as it's a flat daily fee i'm a bit reticent to start forking loads out but don't want to fall out with the neighbours.

Help!

Nope, sorry, seen a lot of folks try them & never saw one work.
Best I can tell you to try is exercise before you leave - a good run somewhere - then a bone/rawhide/stuffed kong to chew on for a bit to keep busy. Leave a radio or TV as well, seems to help some dogs. Good luck!!!

Donner started whining after getting him neutered, but I think he is getting better now. Our neighbors aren't close enough to hear the dogs even with windows open so I don't have to worry about that but I still didn't want him making a fuss in his cage.

I got him 2 kongs and I would stuff them with treats and peanut butter...it seems to keep him busy....some days I even freeze it, just depends if I have time and remember to do so....you can also go back to the puppy thing of putting a tshirt you wore with him....

Thanks guys. It's really annoying cos they both get a good run down on 8 acres when i do the horses for an hour or so in the morning before i ever leave them, and they get left with chews, kongs, bones and toys galore and the TV on. I even leave the TV on while i'm around in the house so they don't associate hearing the noise with me going. Dexter is quiet as a mouse all the time apparently, and Rupert's always happily chewing when i leave so i have no idea why he starts to whine or bark. And they're in our huge kitchen so not even crated. Hmmmmmm.

But i'll definitely save my money and not bother with the DAP diffuser.

I do wonder if he's going through a fear phase as he's a bit clingy and scaredy catty at the moment so maybe that's why?? Any other tips gratefully received. Maybe knocking him out before i leave. LOL.

Try crating and covering the crate, continue to leave the TV on too. What is your leaving routine and what do you do when you get home? Sometimes we make too big a deal when we come home, so he may be anticipating that as it gets closer for the time for someone to arrive. Dogs get into a routine and can tell time and if the arrival is something he is excited about the whining may just be his anticipation at work.

You might also try a video cam so you can watch them and see what they are doing while you are gone. Then maybe you would have more of a clue as to what is happening.

Hi there - I am currently using a Pheremone Collar on Osiris for fearful behavior and adjustment to a new baby in the house. We are also using something called Rescue Remedy suggested by Bev (Texas Belle). I can't say for sure that the collar alone worked - we put it on him and didn't notice an immediate change. But I think with the combo of the RR, the collar, and some of the behavior modification techniqes, he is much better.

Both of the items we got from Amazon.com

We used the Rescue Remedy and the Good Behavior Collar
