Looking for a couple prayers guys.  My FIL who got me into GSP's has had to make the tough decision to have Baroness Babe Foster (born 7/11/1995) laid to rest.  She was one of the best pure hunters I have known.  This was the first dog I ever hunted over and helped me decide GSP's were for me.  My FIL has never been much of a formal trainer, he believes in finding a middle ground with you and the dog and learning each other.  He and Babe could work a field like magic and knew how one another would react to everything.  She was a true versatile dog, she would run with coon dogs one night and be back in the ring neck field the next day.  So if you get a chance say a good word for him to help him get through this tough time.  I feel honored to have known and hunted with her.

That's a lot of years - making a lot of memories. Your FIL is lucky and I wish I have 15 years before I make that decision. Dogs have their own lives and we can not hold on to them longer b/c of sentiment. Our dogs look to us to take care of them - even at this time in the journey.

God Bless,

Francine

I just went through it myself & have no words other than to cherish the memories she built with you & alawys remember the good times My sympathies to you & your FIL. Was the HARDEST thing I ever had to do, but it was done because I loved him & didn't want him to suffer. He would not have wanted a life of little quality & was a great dog and friend all his life, I owed him a peaceful passing for all he did and taught me.

Sounds like your FIL gave Babe a great life and is now supporting her in another journey. My prayers are with Babe and her family. I am sure Babe will be waiting on the other side of the bridge for your FIL.

So very hard to make that decision, but we have to let them go with the same dignity they served us with. Babe sounds like she was an amazing dog and her relationship with your FIL was one that will never be repeated. My prayers and thoughts for your FIL now, his heart is hurting, but soon perhaps it will be filled with happy memories and the ache will dull a bit.

Sending my deepest sympathy on the loss of Babe to you and your family. We lost our 14 year old last February, so we know what you are going through. It's sooo hard to say goodbye to an old friend and companion. That said, 15 years is a long and full life. She was blessed to be given such a good lilfe by your family, and your family was also blessed with 15 years of companionship and unconditional love. May God take good care of Babe until you meet at the Rainbow Bridge.

God saw Babe getting tired, and a cure was not to be,
so he put her arms around her, and whispered "Come with Me"

With tearfilled eyes you watched her, and saw her pass away,
and although you loved her dearly, you could not make her stay.

A golden heart stopped beating, hard working paws now rest,
God breaks our heart to prove to us, that he only takes the best.

Thanks for all your prayers.  Babe was a true hunter and friend she was still hunting last fall only short distances from the house.  She was deaf and you had to give her hand signals.
