Took River and Weller swimming today, got ready to pack it up and blood everywhere.  River sliced in between his pads...pretty good gash.  Off to the vet...could do stitches, but thinks Riv would likely chew them out.  Wrapped it good and gave us antibiotic, and wants low activity.  Any ideas?  I was going to dump a bucket of EMT gel when we have to dress it again, but there is no keeping this dog still.  Hoping for a quick recovery.

Ouch, that stinks! I think as long as it is clean & there's no danger of infection that EMT gel would be the best way to go, otherwise you & the dog will go a little crazy trying to keep the foot covered & protected.

I agree with uno. I have also found depending on the severity of the cut, to just leave it alone because allot of times anything you put on the cut makes the dog lick it just more and more and keep it irritated. If you find you have to keeps it covered, dog boots work pretty good.

Thanks for the replies...it isn't actually on his foot, rather on the underside of his upper pad below his elbow (there's probably a proper name for this).  Doing a bit better today, but he is relentless with ball chasing, cat chasing, welller chasing, fly chasing, butterfly chasing...etc....  We have it wrapped up pretty good and will dress it once a day and keep hitting it with the emt.
