First off, Asher is doing great. He doesn't wine at all in the crate at night or in the morning, but he is having to get used to being in it every once in a while, while I'm doing stuff that I can't watch a puppy and do. He loves the backyard and it has been pretty easy to wear him out (in this heat) back there playing with my lab.
Here's the cool part. I got a GSP for several reasons. As a running mate for my yellow lab, seemed to fit my lifestyle, pretty dog, and different around the Atlanta area. Well, one other is that I have constantly been told stories about my grandfather's bird dogs and how good he was at training them. I have pictures of me growing up playing with them, but the bird hunting opportunities had just dwindled so much, he quit hunting them. So, I thought it would be cool to kind of a cool way to honor his legacy.
Well, a lady at my church saw the pictures on facebook and showed her dad. It turns out he has raised and trained GSP's since he was a kid and he wanted to come see my pup since he hasn't had one for about ten years now. I talked to him on the phone and we are going to lunch tomorrow but he gave me an open invitation to bring him to his house and said he would love to help me train him. AND...he has a couple hundred acres that he said we could hunt...all ten minutes from my house.
Asher may be a hunting dog after all!
