For the past seven years living with Rocky, he is common dog in the kitchen. always ready to lick a plate or check out a kimble on dirty plate newly placed in the dish washer.

Tonight was a different tail!! I placed a full load of two days of dishes in the dish washer after our Memorial Day cook out. I left the dish washer door open, while going out to dump some garbage out to our garage, coming back, I met with Rocky frantically running out into the hallway with the whole lower dish washer rack hooked to his collar. Dishes were flying and crashing and smashing every where. I unhooked Rocky from the rack and sent him out the back door to view the mess of smashed plates. Every last one of them. Kept Rocky outside until my Hubby and I got the terrible mess cleaned up. Who would ever think a terrible mess like this would happen after all these years of having a dish washer and plate licking dogs. What a freak thing to happen. Wonder if others have had strange comedy of errors of unbelievable things happening we would never think of living with our GSPS???

Funny and disastrous at the same time!

We had a similar thing happen a few months ago. I was loading the dishwasher after dinner and wasn't paying attention as I was rinsing off a few plates in the sink. I didn't realize, but Coop had his front paws in the dishwasher and was licking off some items on the bottom rack (which he never really does) when somehow the whole rack literally flew (FLEW!) across the kitchen floor. Cooper went flying with it! Both the dog and the dishwasher rack crashed against the cabinets! I have no idea how it happened, but oh man did it scare Cooper. I don't think he knew what hit him.

Oh!!!Cooper must have been just like Rocky, surprised and scared at the same time when the lower Dish washer rack comes out with the dog just a sailing. Those dish washers and dogs can be dangerous and funny at the same time. Just unbelievable!! Never a dull moment when living with a GSP!!

How crazy! I wonder if they will ever lick a dish in the dish washer again!

I guess I am different than most, but mine are not allowed to lick dishes or get in the dishwasher. Any leftovers they get are served in their bowls. They know that what is on a people plate is off limits to them. Now they do try to cheat. LOL

oh NO! Poor Rocky , probably scared himself half to death. However I will say the visual you paint is rather humorous (then again, it wasn't MY dishes flying all over!)

Me three -- mine don't get leftovers period. They get human food that is bought especially for them (yogurt, pumpkin, carrots, raw beef) but I have never emptied my plate into their bowls.

But poor Rocky! If it was Bo, he wouldn't come into the kitchen for weeks ... (wait a minute -- you may have give me an answer for the counter-surfing issue :D)

Poor Rocky, only gets to lick plates after we scrape the left overs off, rinse a little on the plate if too much gravy ect on it. He is licking food smells without the calories. Well last night I was going to run the dish washer after dumping the table scrapes in the garbage out in our garage. So the plates in our dish washer were extra tasty that Rocky could not resist. Lesson well learned. Will not do that ever again. Tonight did our dishes by hand and didnot even open our Dish washer!!

Tee hee hee!! I literally LOL'ed! I have seen a video similar to that on America's Funniest Home Videos, so I guess it does happen! Poor Rocky! Osiris is not allowed to lick out of the dishwasher, only because the untensil basket is on the bottom and I am afraid he will cut his tongue on a knife!
