The thread on eating bees was a very timely topic. King who flew in a few months ago for a visit ( I think he has decided to stay) wondered why the older dogs allowed the flying insects free reign of the watering facilities. I hope he has learned a lesson.

Aw, poor puppy. Hopefully he did learn. My oldest, Belle, is a stinging bug magnet. She doesn't mess with them, but they seem to find her and sting her. Poor baby, she has bad reactions and I have to give her the benadryl and a shot (which I keep on hand). My younger girl, Halo, loves to kill stinging bugs and never seems to get stung.

He was stung on the inside of the lip, which made it difficult to eat his food. What he generally wolfs down in a few minutes took more than half an hour last night. I did give a small dose of benedryl. Another suggestion, because of the location of the bite, that worked or he seemed to like was a bowl of ice.

Benadryl does well with stings. Mine get ground bees which are far worse then the big honey bees you see. UGH!!

Here is the dosage for Benadryl for dogs for future reference. My guess is you didn't give you pup a large enough dose. So, this may help if it happens again. Remember to give in pill form as the liquid has too much alcohol in it.

Dosage every 8 hours
Dogs under 30 lbs and Cats : 10 mg
Dogs 30-50 lbs: 25 mg (this is usually one pill)
Dogs over 50 lbs: 50 mg (this is usually two pills)
