Took an animal first aid class last night. And found out something really interesting in regards to Antifreeze. the way antifreeze is processed in the dog's body is that it goes through the liver, and the by-product is what destroys the kidneys, which in turn is what kills the dog. There are two cures, one is a very expensive treatment that they use to help flush it out of the system and the other is ..... Everclear, or Vodka.... Get the dog drunk!!!
Yeah My chin hit the floor on that one, but apparently introducing everclear or a strong alcohol quickly after ingestion will cause the liver to focus on the alcohol, and ignore the antifreeze.. The antifreeze will then pass through the kidneys pretty much untouched without being processed in the system. The downside is .. the dog is intoxicated for several days. The vet doing the presentation did state that there is a very precise formula for how much alcohol a dog should have in reguards to the proof of the drink and the bodyweight of the dog, but for the most part he ususally stops about the time the dog starts acting tipsy.

Thank you for that bit of information. That is very interesting.. I printed it up and am going to put in my reference binder. Thanks again!
