Sent Phoenix's CD test off today to OptiGen! I hate waiting for test results to come back. For those who don't know what the CD test is or what it is for here is a link:

Our next step will be to have cardiac test done to make sure we have no heart issues. Then hips and eyes. I might throw thyroid in there for good messure too! We will see.

Any others you fellow GSP breeders feel are of UTMOST importants!

And even if Phoenix is a carrier of CD, no big deal, just be sure the stud dog is NOT a carrier. If she were affected, you would already know! But CD carriers are not a huge percentage of the breed, so I am sure she is clear.

I do CERF annually, because I once owned a GSP with juvenile cataracts. The cataracts manifested themselves at the age of 3 1/2. She had CERF'd clear before then. They never affected her sight, but the opthamologists suggested she never been bred. No problem there, as she then contracted life-threatening pyometra and was spayed! She was a wonderful and happy pet for 13 years!

Yeah I will be doing CERF as well. They do them monthly at a clinic by me for $47. But saying it only stays good for a year I am going to wait a bit closer to when we want to breed to do it.

Good for you re: doing the health clearances. So many people do not!
