| I didn't see that episode but now that you explained it my sister had told me about it and she said it was a bad episode too. She said that the people just basically didn't even try anything to stop the dog from chewing everything up when they left, they just put up with it for years. The answer was so simple you crate the dog. |

We have had 2 shorthairs. The first,Kaiser, recently passed away from old age, almost 14 years. We have a 3 year old, Gator. They shared many traits, both are velcro dogs, very affectionate, smart, loving, protective of their people, very intelligent. They both stay very close to their family, and neither one of them has every left the yard. On the one hand, Kaiser was always a more laid back Shorthair. He was always happy hanging out with us. When he was younger, he would go to work with my husband, hand out at his shop, and ride in the truck with him when he made sales/service calls. He played with stuffed toys when he was younger He was the king of dog that you could take anywhere, and he would be well behaved. He never was much of a chewer, and never, ever was kenneled. On the other hand, Gator is always on the go. He is a very active, boy. He loves tennis balls, and has one in his mouth, or nearby 24/7. He will steal a shoe, a hat, or whatever he can get his hands on, just to get your attention, or to get you to play with him. He will bring a ball to you, and if you don't throw it, he will bark. Gator is much more mouthy, has a high prey drive. I think the difference is that we got Gator at 3 months, and he came from a farm where he lived with his siblings, and other shorthairs outside. It was a little adjustment for him to live inside. I think the difference between the 2 dogs is that Kaiser's mom was a house dog, and hunted during the hunting season. Gator's parents and other shorthairs were outside dogs, so that was the life he lead until we got him at 3 months. We got Kaiser at 7 weeks, and he lived inside, with a large family, and the kids handled the puppies all the time. The first thing Kaiser did when I brought him home was jump up on the couch. He was potty trained at 7 weeks. |

I am simply thankful that least dogs exist, and I'm humbly aware of how much less a person I'd be - how less human, if they did not exist - Rick Bass |

| Gatormom, My first GSP Poge was like Kaiser, really laid back. In fact when I first heard a person tell me GSPs were super hyper and active owning Poge, I thought they were kidding. Rocky on the other hand is like Gator, on the go with tennis ball in mouth. First dog I have ever had to teach the "calm down" Command when coming in the house after 2 hours of exercise runny, runny time. And Rocky is 8 years old. I am looking forward to when he reaches 10 yrs old to really calm down and act like a normal dog. |

We live in Wisconsin and have never seen Rocky shiver when outside in the fields free running.Or on his long leash in front yard. |

| Interesting just how different individuals within a breed can be, isn't it? |
