A few more questions.

A "hypothetical" question to start with . We plan to have another addition to our family in the future - a little "sister" for Hogan. At what age would be best for Hogan? I have been told it is anywhere between 18months and 3 years but that's quite a big gap. What are your experiences?

Well, maybe not the recommended way to do it but we got our second when the first was 8 months and it's absolutely fine!

Halo and Belle are about a year and a half apart. They would have been only a year apart, but had to wait for the breeding. Seems to have worked for them. Belle was a little more settled which was good when bringing a puppy into the house.

Something to think about is you will have an intact male and female if you get a female and you plan to continue showing both Hogan and the new female. That can be tricky. Believe me it is a pain to keep them apart for three weeks.

Yeah, I got another boy for that exact reason TB, even though I was offered rupert's full sister from the same litter as she was returned for being too lively.

Cooper and Penny are 9 months apart.  Same mom and dad.  Cooper reverted back to puppyhood for a bit.  Probably more for attention than anything else.  Had him neutered when he was a little over a year old.

We got Shiraz when Bo was 2 yo. She is 3 years older than him and (at the time) a 2x mom. She has been an awesome addition to the family.

Would we have gotten another one sooner? Probably not since we just didn't have the time or energy for two until last year.

No matter how "to-die-for' a breeding is we won't get another puppy until the ones before it are done with their breeding tests. This is about 17 months old and then the training goals of the dogs we already have are considered. At this point I am looking to do a test with both dogs that is a handful and I could not deal with puppy training for a breed test.
My advice is to take on only what you can handle.

Do you want to adopt Bentley? I'm sure they'll get on really well together!! :P

Ahh yeah, Bentley would love it here!

Francine, thanks for the comment. It's food for thought. It's a loose idea at the moment - the general consensus I think is 18 months plus.

Also, given that amount of time, my working circumstances should have changed - currently I work full time in the family business, but am undergoing training to take on a more managerial role - giving me a lot more flexibility.
