I currently feed Graham Nutro Ultra Puppy food. I have been thinking about changing him over to Blue Buffalo, does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? Is one better than the other? I am planning on hunting him, which would be better in the long run. Thanks!! |

| I just looked at the websites. Ingredients look similar b/t the reg adult foods. Both look like good foods. Which Blue Buffalo product? |

here are reviews on each of your brands Nutro Ultra puppy http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php?product=1050&cat=all Pros: First and fifth ingredients are named meat products. Cons: Minimum acceptable meat content, fat of unidentifiable origin, low quality grain and other controversial filler. Blue Buffalo http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php?product=531&cat=all Pros: First two ingredients are named meat products, uses good quality grains and whole vegetables. Cons: Minimum acceptable meat content, some filler. not sure if that is the excat blue buffalo product you are wanting to switch but the buffalo is rated higher |

I think what I like about Blue Buffalo is that it does not have the corn gluten like Nutro does. I may just be looking into things to much but Nutra has not had very good reviews, plus all the recalls. Graham has not had any problems with Nutro but I just want to give a good quality food, especially for when he is out on the field. What do you guys feed your GSP's?? |

| I feed Orijen. It is a grain free food. expensive as heck but...dogs look amazing and are healthy. Wellness Core and Innova Evo (both grain free) are excellent as well. |

| Koda started on Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy then I switched to Nutro Ultra Puppy, a "better" quality food within the product line, but it made her sick. I had to force her to eat when she was on Nutro. I switched her to Innova Puppy and she gobbles it down. I plan to switch her to Evo when she turns one. |

Unrelated ... but I LOVE the name Graham for a GSP -- how regal! And haven't you heard about the picture requirements . |

| I feed Innova Puppy when young and then switch to a special kibble which is not on the market yet called Shaeffer's for performance dogs (I am getting a discount on it and originally got it free because I tested it on my dogs). The reason I even considered trying Shaeffer's was a friend new the guy making it and the ingredients are incredible. It is very similar to Evo, but for allot less, and it is made locally. I mix Wellness lamb or venison canned in with the afternoon feeding. I supplement with Calif. Natural Skin and Coat and a glucousimine bar. I am also going to try adding kelp to see if it helps with sunburn (thanks zodiak and pixie for the recommendation). |

| I feed Taste of the wild pacific stream. It is rated a little bit lower then their other two brands but both dogs do really good on it. Their coats are much better..must be from the fish and switching to it completely got rid of their gas! so i am sold on it! haha |

| All Nutro products contain menadione. I would go with Blue Buffalo for that reason if for no other. If you don't know what menadione is, google it. |

| I think there are quite a few levels of blue buffalo. I know they have a really cheap version that isn't very good at places like petsmart. I think their "blue wilderness" is better, but still not considered a high end food (ie. contains more fillers than top end brands) |

That's the way to go, if you can afford it. All meat, no grain fillers. It's just too much $$ for me, so we buy Kirkland dogfood from Costco, which gets surprisingly high ratings (better than Nutro for half the price), and then mix it with Wellness Core. Not ideal, but the best we can do right now, and a heck of a lot better than most people feed their dogs.
