What annoys me is that people think the prongs of the pinch are causing it...even if the prongs sit on TOP of the neck which still has all the hair!

But yeah, it'll be back to the harness for a while...

Francince: how do you drink the vinegar? Mixed in with something? I can't bear the smell or taste of it, although for a short while, I did drink it first thing in the a.m. It really is very healthy.

Apple cider vinegar with honey and lemon in hot water is delicious IMO and very good for getting over colds.

I take a tsp straight and wash it down with some water,my husband mixes it with water and honey and the kids will take it either way. I cook with it,also.
It has many benefits- it is great for liver problems, will break up plaque in arteries and will do wonders for an upset tummy.taken regularly, it gives an overall feeling of feeling good. You can't put a finger on it,you just feel good.

Taking it first thing in the morning is very good. It will warm the liver and wake it up gently and keep the liver soft. Eat one radish before each meal, too and you'll be doing fine.

oh, very good someone mentioned lemon. We don't add lemon to the ACV, but lemon water is also very healthy.
One thing to keep in mind, tho, not all is good for everyone. We must know if we are "heat" or "damp".
Damp will not do well with lemon.

I will buy some tonight. But how do I find out if I am "heat" or "damp"?

We walk our GSPs with harnesses...might be a good switch while the hair is growing back in...then maybe you could narrow down the cause. I would take her to the store to get one that won't irritate the area and that fits correctly, as there are many different versions of the harness.

Just a thought :-)

The harnesses that I used cause just as much, if not more, rubbing and hair loss.

It appears to be a leather collar. Seems like some dogs just do not do well with leather. Might try the permatak.

My dogs don't do well with "regular" size collars, leather or otherwise, but I have had great luck with the rolled leather collars. They are skinny but strong.

rolled collar I bet would be a good thing to try, I didn't think of it, but with some horses we have used rolled leather bridles if they have problems with the way it rubs and they are ridden a lot...

I know people will actually not only clean their bird cages with ACV but add a drop to the birds drinking water, to help cut down on bacteria cuz birds can get sick easy. When Donner was having diarrhea I had thought of trying it but he had the vet appointment and they gave him antibiotics for the bacteria in his poop...

I don't think it is the leather because she didn't wear leather until later, and she had the same hair loss while on nylon collars. Her hunting collar (very soft plastic) also seems to have the same effect.

Kim: that's what I am doing right now. I already have a harness and it still fits her fine so we have been using it. So far so good!

Also looking at the rolled collars but they are so skinny, don't they dig into the trachea if you pull or hold a straining dog back on it? (Not that she strains all the time but it does happen).

I've never had a problem with mine & Daniel is a terrible puller when he forgets his manners. :)

One thing that might help in keeping the regular collar off the lower neck when walking is clipping your leash to both the prong and the regular collar. I know allot of folks do that because they worry the prong collar might pull apart, so the second collar is insurance for them. A rolled collar would work great as the second collar if you wanted to clip them together when on leash.

Regarding apple cider vinegar. There is an old time recipe for "Gingerale" that the pioneers made for refreshment on a hot day, after a hard day's work. My grandmother whose parents where pioneers in Dakota Territory, would make it for us sometimes on a hot day.

Grandma never measured, her recipes were always, as she was found of saying, "by guess and by golly". But she would put maybe a cup of sugar, maybe a 1/4th cup of cider vinegar and a couple of tablespoons of ground ginger in the bottom of a pitcher, stir, and add water an ice to fill. This, at least to me is a very tasty and refreshing drink, especially ona hot day. I make this occasionally, by the glassful. I use nutrasweet, a couple of packets, a tbsp of acv, and a tsp of dry ginger.

Apple cider vinegar is reportedly good to reduce cholestrol, and I know of someone at work who mixes applejuice, grapejuice and acv, and claims to have seen a significant reduction in their cholestrol.

Well, we are in week 3 of harness and no collars (only in the field) and the hair is ever so slowly coming back. Excuse the pine pollen on her nose...

Tessa - That is looking so much better. I had to laugh at the pollen. We are in full oak bloom right now and everything is yellow. I took Halo to obedience class tonight and was doing a recall and when she was coming back to be the light hit just right and her coat looked yellow on her back and she definitely had yellow eyebrows.
