Well Hogan was booked in to see the vet on Friday for a vet check up, but doing his ear has become increasing difficult - as soon as he senses he is about to have it done he turns into a vicious monster - biting, clawing, screaming.
This morning I had to wrap him tightly in a towel and sit on him, and then Toni had to do it. It was ridiculous - and I was convinced he must have been in an incredible amount of pain to react like that.
Anyway, I phoned the vets and explained, and managed to get him a short notice appointment for today.
When we got there, I asked the vet to muzzle him, and she had a good look. Boy did he scream! She said that the inside is ulcerated and it's clear it's not a straightforward infection. She says it's really uncommon for a puppy this age to have such a bad ear problem
She's taken some swabs and sent them away, so we should hear back by friday. In the meantime we have stopped treating his ear as it is too much trauma for him, and doesn't seem to be working anyway. I've been given broad spectrum anti-biotics for him to have in his feed, and he was given an anti-inflammatory drug by injection - this should last 48 hours, but will hopefully give a little pain relief - and hopefully if she ulceration is caused by him fussing it, it will give it a break.
My poor pup. Luckily he is fine in himself, I just want to get it sorted for him! |
