Today is Donner's scheduled vet check up and shots...however since Sunday he has not been right. Saturday night he howled to be let out in the middle of the night so I let him out and he exploded out his backend! Then Sunday he puked and was still having liquid diarrhea. Monday I never got a good look at how his poops were but I know they were soft. Last night he messed his kennel, poor pup! This morning the vet wanted a stool sample anyway so now they have some liquid diarrhea to check!
He has been playful, but also really liking to snuggle and nap.
Blitz seems fine, so I have no idea what it is. He has been eating too....I might have to go to a rice diet depending on what the vet determines it is.... |

Poor donner (and poor you!) hope it just turns out he ate something dodgy in the yard and clears up just fine. I looked after a dog for a friend the other day, and she forgot to tell me he'd stolen some very very spicy jerk pork the night before. He exploded all over my garden all day. Disgusting. That took about 4 days to clear up too. Get well soon donner! |

I am really hoping it is something he ate and he isn't sick.... There are tons of apples in the yard that had fallen off the trees in the fall and had been covered in snow until a few days ago...I have to imagine that they would not be too good for his stomach if he ate one or two... Leaving in about 20 minutes so I'll be updating you on what the vet says in a couple hours... |

I always take diarrhea very seriously when they are puppies and play it by ear as they get older. Tessa had a few severe bouts with this, her stools are very erratic although her diet is consistent. She's been treated those few times for "dietary indiscretion" (the vet's term for eating crap), been on Flagyl and other antibiotics and i/d food and gut soothers, enzymes etc off and on. Canned pumpkin works great for her but due to last year's weather there is none to be found in stores here right now Anyway, better safe than sorry with a pup, so good luck, and keep us posted. |

| apples could do it. I had a dog that basically exploded all over our game room -- on the walls, on the television, all over the carpet on chairs -- he went crazy... The culprit: mushrooms that my mother-in-law let him have. |

| Hope you figure this out. Never good when a puppy get diarrhea and vomiting. You have to watch the dehydration issues. Glad you are getting him to the vet. |

Just got back.... No fever or worms of any sort...did find some bacteria... He got a penicillin shot and sent home with some antibiotic pills... Luckily he only had an accident in his kennel and the diarrhea hasn't been out of his control during the day and he has not been asking to go out more than usual. He has been drinking his water a lot too. Vet didn't say to change his diet though I am thinking about giving him rice for dinner instead of his kibble... |

I forgot to add Donner 13 weeks old 18.5 pounds Blitz at 13 weeks old was 25.60 pounds! I wonder if Donner would have been closer to 20 pounds if he hadn't had this diarrhea problem... |

Well that sounds promising. Lets hope it clears up soon. Re the apples, Dex ate an apple core yesterday and had an upset tum after, so if he's eaten a few i'm sure some diarrhoea would be the result, they're pretty acidic aren't they. |

Poor little guy! Hope he gets to feeling better soon! Murphy had his share of "dietary indiscretions" (Thanks for that one Tessa) as a puppy, so we spent a lot of time going back and forth between rice and ground beef and kibble. I always found the rice diet for 24 hours can help tremendously as can the pumpkin Tessa mentioned. Whenever Murf has a bout with diarrhea thee days I immediately start tossing some pumpkin into his kibble and things seem to settle down pretty quick. |

Bo LOOOOVES apples ... but we give them to him in moderation (and always take the seeds out). Spoiled apples I think could almost certainly cause tummy problems. The dogs also LOOOOOOOOOOVE pumpkin. Anytime they eat something suspect or have gone swimming in sketchy water or are looking hungry even though they just ate, they get a couple tablespoons of pumpkin. They also love rice and beef, and rice can not be made in our house without a dog drooling ... |

The vet also really felt around his tummy and she didn't feel anything odd but he did whine a bit cuz he was sore.... He just got done with a long nap...I'm sure the vet outing tired him out and now he is wanting to play! |

| He did not like just rice for dinner....he watched Blitz eat his kibble and then when that was gone he nibbled at the rice and didn't finish it all....I think I will give him rice again tomorrow morning and see how it goes during the day.... |

I know everyone says that they have added chicken to it when the dogs had upset tummies, but I don't see how that helps keep them on a bland diet....I know when my son was a baby and he had the rotovirus he could only eat rice cereal and I think bananas..... I added a very little bit of chicken to this mornings rice and he ate it a bit better....He seems much better and is really running around like a crazy man this morning! I didn't realize how much he wasn't playing until this morning! |

When treating upset tummies, I've always used a 3:1 rice:ground beef mixture. No matter how bad they feel, they sit at my feet and drool while I'm making it You could also try putting some mushed banana in -- the dogs love banana! |

Stuff like this happens and for no known causes. When it does happen I give children's Immodium or kaopectate(sp) Give a bland diet until it firms up. It could take a week. Hope he feels better soon. Francine |
