Well, we went and picked up Serenity yesterday! We came home and introduced her to all the other animals, and they weren't sure what to think. The cats hissed and scared her, and the "big" dog was just protective of his toys. She peed on the floor a few times, but most of the time she peed on the piddle pads. I would have taken her outside, but it was rainy and cold, and wouldn't have been a good start. Over the night she woke up several times and whined, the first few times I heated up a rice bag and set it in her kennel and she went straight back to sleep. Around 5:00 this morning it wasn't that easy! I let her out to go potty, which is exactly what she did, and then when she went back to the kennel I ignored her whining because there was nothing more I could do. Her and the "big" dog played together some this morning, and we went outside and explored. The chickens scared her more than anything! While we were out, she relieved herself, but as soon as she got back in, she did it yet again... only on the carpet this time. Overall she did fairly well for a 6 week old puppy her first day in a new home.
Here are a few pictures of her from yesterday. Most of them she was sleeping, She doesn't stop moving when she's awake!
The ride home:

We had to make a pit stop at my grandparents house to do laundry, our washer is broken!

| I don't even know how much she weighs... LOL, that ought to be something I should do. I don't have to take her to the vet for another two weeks so I'll have to depend on my own scale... and my time! |

| She is adorable. Sounds like you guys got off to a good start. I like the idea of the warmed up rice bag. I will have to try that with my next puppy. Keep us posted on her progress. Also, love the pictures. |

| I am indeed very excited! She's just getting to know her way around the house. She loves to explore! She really likes to chew on the cardboard we have blocking things off for some reason. She's already learning her name and most of the time she will come when she's called. She's really playful but tires out really quick! |

Wow she's pretty, and so small! Is it normal to get a 6 weeks over there? No-one really gets puppies until they are 8 weeks in the UK? Enjoy her " src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/blue/emoticons/smile.gif" /> |

No, we usually get them when they are 8 weeks but I got her now so I could bond over spring break. Most of the others out of the litter went to their homes as well, the other people probably had the same thing in mind as I did. I checked her weight this morning, she is 4 lbs! |

| She is cute and tiny! I had a friend who got her female GSP at 6 weeks old and she was only 4 pounds too...she is now 6 months old and when we had our doggie play date last week she was still tiny! She reminded me of a whippet, Blitz looked huge compared to her! You may have a dainty little girl, how fun! |

| She wasn't much smaller than the others in her litter, but still a little! They had her eating a little bit of formula and gave us some to finish off, so she's getting a little extra nutrition... little chubby puppy. Thank you, She's getting better with her house training and sleeping at night every second..! |

| You never can tell about the size of they will be when they grow up. My girl, Belle, was the runt of her litter and she is not the size of a small male (25 inches at the withers and weighs about 55 lbs). She is a big female. Ringo was a big puppy and he is a big male too (upper edge of the standard). One of his sisters was an average size puppy, and she is a small female (lower end of the standard). Go figure. So, you just never know what they will grow into. I would use the sire and dam as a gauge for the size of the puppies. There is a post somewhere on the forum where people have posted the weights of their growing puppies. It is interesting if you can find it. I know I posted the growing weights of all three of mine in that thread. |

| The sire and dam weren't very big. They weren't even two years old yet though. I will try to find the thread... |

My "tip of the day" is to use a small wastebasket for weighing them! Hard to crawl out! |

| I don't think she'd like that very well! I caught her on the edge of the trash can today, but she wasn't big enough to knock it over. LOL it wasn't a good thing, but it was kind of a funny sight, it's several times her height. I also discovered when she gets tired after playing she wants to sleep on my lap, and if that's not available, she asks to get up on the couch... if you don't let her up she sits there and whines at you with the cute little tired puppy dog eyes! That look... LOL! |
