 Hi guys!

Another new GSP owner here, still reading over a lot of these posts but thought I'd introduce you to Bentley. These are from when I first got him, he's 5 months old now bless him.

Welcome to the forum. Bentley is a cutie. Post some current pictures too. I bet he has grown into a handsome young man.

You doing anything special with Bentley aside from having a wonderful dog and breed as a family member? Allot of us do lots of things with our dogs like hunting, hunt and field tests, obedience, agility, therapy dog work, tracking, etc.

Well I'd like to try a bit of everything, then do whatever he enjoys the most? I'd like to try hunting, and i've been watching a bit of that Flyball...that looks like a lot of fun!! I'll definitely get him well trained in obedience though then probably just decide from there :)

Not sure if that link will work, it should do though? Just a video of him a month or so ago.

Haha thanks guys. He is a little cutie, especially when he's being good...so basically when there's a treat involved!! He loves learning new tricks and picks them up SO quickly!

He is well on his way with obedience. Where are you located? I am assuming not in the US right? I was very interested to see your success with the clicker training. I do something similar, but use a verbal reinforcer. I am not that coordinated with the clicker and timing is so important with this training. It works the same way though. He is a really cute boy and is very happy working with you.

I have never tried clicker training and always thought clicker or voice is the same, and I used voice that way when Tessa was a pup. It did work.
However, I once watched my neighbor work her dogs with the clicker (her dogs are kinda crazy-wild-neurotic) and wow - their response was
amazing! There is something about that precise click, consistent in sound and intensity, that seems to work better than voice. Everytime I see
it in action it makes me wanna try.

You should give it a go! It's never too late to start, and it is really useful. As soon as he hears the click he is looking for the treat, knowing that what he just did was good. If he does something especially well then he gets a click and a lot of "good boy!"'s and a fuss etc so he know's that i'm really pleased with him. It seems to be working fine...mostly! I have a few issues that i'll raise in a new thread, once i've read over the forums to make sure it hasn't been addressed before.

ahh what a cool pup...i did a bunch of clicker training when Dieter was small like him. Brought back some memories..haha of...4 months ago. Its really amazing what you can teach your dog to do with a clicker. 1 tip tho..your clicker is a training tool. once your dog knows the command there is no need to click. You might end up confusing him with multiple commands in a row ...then again it looks like your doing great with him and having a ton of fun doing it

ahhh ha! The infamous Dieter!! Now that's a lovely dog :o) i've subscribed to your video's on youtube. Yeah I don't click for sit and down anymore, normally just the harder/newer tricks he's learning. I'm working on teaching him left and right paw, also left side and right side for when we're walking together depending which side the road is on. Dieter was one of my inspirations for getting a GSP...especially his "Has dieter been a bad boy?" trick. SO CUTE!
