Blitz has not shown an interest to counter surfing, however Donner jumps up and puts his front feet on the cabinets (he can't reach counter height yet)....we are already teaching this is wrong.... Before we got Donner we were working on Blitz staying out of the kitchen while we are eating. He did just fine by going and laying down in the living room. When we got Donner we didn't want him out of site so we slacked in this department...though I suppose I could put them in their kennels while we eat, so I'll think about that. My dogs do good if my kids have food in their hands, but if their friends do then they follow and try and take the food...so I am working on that...good thing is I know the dogs respect my kids at least so we are getting somewhere! Try telling a 6 year old (my son's friend) to not laugh and move away from the dog, the kids don't listen so how do I get the dogs to listen, LOL! I do agree about good table/food manners for dogs. My aunt and uncle have a huge golden retriever and he sits with his butt on the floor and head on the table while you are eating and then they give him table scraps as he does that cuz they think it is cute that he is part of the family!!!
This was a situation when I really had to exercise the "leave it command" with Rocky and Jackson(lab)!!Having company dogs over takes more to control counter surfing
Hello Marie,
Do these two also drink milk right out of the carton while they have the fridge door open? How gross.
Microwave ovens and regular ovens work as good places to stash food that you don't want the dogs to get. Jenny, my main counter surfer, really likes bread. It now gets stored in the microwave.
What does the fact that this thread is 3 pages long going on 4 tell us? We are not alone! BTW Marie it's counter-productive to take a photo when you catch them in the act instead of disciplining them..I've been guilty of that too
Pretending to be playing, the little sneak:
I don't have a counter surfer but this picture made both my wife and I laugh so much. This GSP looks exactly like our Oskar right down to the collar and ticking
