This weekend, I attended a wedding at a hotel that is dog-friendly.  We decided to spend the night and brought Koda along.  We had her crate, bed, toys, treats, etc.  She was fine in the room, and we left her in the crate when we went down stairs for the ceremony.  I came upstairs to check on her, and she seemed fine, but when I left, the howling began.  I made the mistake of going in to try to get her to stop, but quickly realized she needed to howl it out, and one guy popped his head out of his room with a confused look on his face.  I apologized and told him she would be quiet in a few minutes, and she was.  My boyfriend had to go to the room to bring the wedding present downstairs, and I warned him that she was whining for attention.  He did the same thing as I did, and she was quiet after a few minutes.  I know she is in a totally new environment and wanted "mama and dada," but is there anything else I could have done?  I gave her toys and kongs, but that did not prevent her whining.

You could try turning the TV or radio on as well. I also give a really good bone or something like that that is special and will last a while.

I should have thought of the radio. Next time.

I also forgot her food (it was the last thing I was going to grab on our way out the door), but there was a small pet boutique on the next block. I called to see if they had Innova puppy, but the lady said she bought the last bag for her dogs and offered to give me enough for the evening and next day for free. We felt bad taking it (she had to take out other food that she mixed it with), so we asked about chew toys and they had deer antlers! I bought two large ones, and Koda loved them.

I agree with Texas Belle, for nine years we never stayed at a Hotel unless they took dogs, when we had to leave Chelsea in the room we always left the tv on, gave her plenty of things to chew and never had a problem. Good luck!
