I know alot of people on here own other breeds besides gsps so this thread is all about them. Here is a little about fin...he is almost 3 years old. He is a mix that we got at the local spca. The vet guessed he was about 7-8 months old when we got him. He is the fastest dog I have ever seen (we have yet to meet a greyhound or whippet tho). We are allways going to dog parks and dog friendly trails and have yet to meet a dog that can keep up with him. He absolutly must have some sort of sight hound in him because he fits the traits perfectly. If he is not out in a field running he is a huge and I mean huge couch potatoe! Also i filmed him running and slowed it down frame by frame and he indeed does run with a double suspension gallop (all four legs are off the ground twice in one cycle). With very little training he is on of the most well behaved dogs. He is extremely gentle and just a great overall housedog/companion. So this thread is dedicated to Fin and all the other non-gsps out there. It would be great if everyone could post a picture or video and maybe a little discription of your dog.

I have 3 other dogs besides my GSP - a Basset Hound who is almost 13yrs old and she is the boss dog - all the other dogs bow to her. We were told she has congestive heart failure 9 months ago and she just keeps on going - she only runs fast when she is after something - most of the day she sleeps. My next dog is a Bluetick who will be 10 this year. She is on the small side for a Bluetick and she is bred for cat. She hunts just about anything even birds LOL She is not as fast as the Pointers but can out maneuver them. My next one is a English Pointer she is are baby at 3yrs old - she is fast as the wind, stops on a dime and cracks her tail on birds. Here is my favorite picture of all them together taken at X-Mas 2008. |

Our house has a great little non-GSP named "Zin" -- she is a Standard Smooth Dachshund -- she is only one of 6 Dachshunds ever to earn the title of Champion Tracker, and is the only Standard Dachshund and the only Smooth Dachshund to ever earn this highest level title. She was the 191st dog of any breed to hear the CT title. Best, she earned it at the 2009 VST test held at the GSPCA National Specialty which was an all-breed tracking test with preference given to GSPs -- Zin made it in and ironically perhaps our dachshund had the greatest win we've had at a GSPCA National Specialty!
Here is her picture with Karen, the track layer to the left, and the two judges to the right. She is also the youngest Champion we've ever had, finishing her conformation championship at the age of 11 months -- she is over 10 years old now and still going very strong.

I have Sniper of course, 3 yrs old, English Springer Spaniel. These pics were taken last summer, he's no bigger, but more coat now: And of course Sienna, she'll be 13 yr old in June. Sienna battles lymphoma cancer now, but so far she's fighting it well. Sienna was bought as a gift to my youngest daughter whose puppy we had to euthanize at 7 months (long story). At first Andria wanted nothing to do with Sienna, she was sure that she'd just start to love her and we'd have to put her to sleep too, but I kept telling her it wasn't going to happen. Low and behold Sienna was diagnosed with a heart defect (PDA-patent ductus arteriosis) at 14 weeks of age. She underwent open heart surgery to repair the defect at 16 weeks of age. I explained to the vet that my daughter wasn't bonding to this pup very well and I was concerned. He called after Sienna's surgery and told me to bring Andria (then 9 yrs old) to the office please. When we got there he took Andria and I in the back room to see Sienna. There she lay, with tubes all over her, and an ace bandage around her midde that said "ouch, ouch, ouch" all over it. He sat on the floor and invited Andria to sit with him and he opened the crate door so Sienna could be petted. He didn't say a word, he just let things unfold, and unfold they did. Andria first reached to stroke Sienna's head, and then she asked if the puppy was hurting. The vet said yes, she was, but she would be ok in a few days and she'd need lots of love and special care and attention while she healed. Did Andria think that she could do that?? Andria sat there for a minute and then quietly said "I think this puppy needs someone to love." The vet agreed with her and asked her if she knew someone who could do that. Andria shook her head and looked at him with one lone tear going down her face, and said: "This puppy needs ME to love her. She needs someone to help her because she's small, and she won't know why she hurts and she won't know what to do. I think I can show her". And that was the beginning of one glorious friendship between my youngest, and her dog. Sienna to this day smiles, literally, when she sees Andria. They are two peas in a pod. They went on together and got their CD obedience title together. Andria totally trained her herself. Sienna was 2 yrs old and Andria was 11 by the time they did it, it took a lot of shows, and they never did place,,,but ohhhh did they have fun! This one picture speaks of their relationship: Then there is Louie the cocker spaniel. Lou came to me from a person who was going to take him to the dog pound because they no longer wanted him. I was told he was AKC registered, 6 months old, housebroken and fully vetted. He came with no papers (they couldn't find them), he was not housebroken in the least, and hadn't seen a vet since he was 4 months old. I tracked down his breeder to find out he was 8 months old and had never been registered because the breeder still had all the paperwork! I got his paperwork, promptly sent it in, and set to work teaching Lou some basic doggy manners. He had his first epileptic seizure two weeks after I got him. He was diagnosed with a heart condition a year or so ago. Lou is from a horrible backyard breeder (who I turned into the animal control here when I saw the conditions he kept his dogs in!), his health suffers because of it. But, Lou never met another animal or person he doesn't love. He is absolutely wonderful with my grandsons. Lou lives to be loved. |

| This might be a GSP website, but I think it's safe to say we are all animal lovers, no matter what breed! Great pics, everyone! |

MelB your pic of Sienna and your daughter is beautiful! I think every child should have a dog to help teach them unconditional love and responsibility. Well our non-GSP is Thor, an 8 year old maltese. He needed a big name to go with his big attitude This is Thor in various states of grooming Don't be fooled by the smile in that last pic... he's grown rather cranky since Murphy invaded his "only child" status and refuses to play well with him. So this next picture is a bit of a treasure to me... Thor fell asleep next to me and Murf wiggled his way up (in his infinite struggle to make Thor his buddy and be close to him always) and managed to have a snooze on my lap within inches of Thor. It lasted maybe 10 minutes... then Murf started snoring, woke Thor up and realized what the heck was going on and he hightailed it out of there... |

I love this thread. I don't have an interesting story to go along with mine. I wanted a companion to run, bike, swim with etc.. (I'm very active outdoors) I also wanted a tiny friend I could groom, trim, color, brush and fuss with.. Thankfully they both love each other.
I also have an African Grey parrot, she's for comic relief when the teenagers walk around all moody...
