In the week I am up before 7am, Baira is let out, fed and we're all up for the day. At the weekend I don't want or need to be up at that time so I get up anyway to let Baira out and feed her, then she goes back in her crate so I can go back to bed for an hour. This has never been a problem....until this morning. Up, let out, fed and back in crate but today she started whining. After listening to her for 5 mins I thought there might be something wrong as she's not done it before. So, I got up but when I went to let her outside she just stood at the door and looked at me, obviously not needing to go out. I closed the door and she ran across the living room and grabbed her toy. I put her back in her crate and what followed was incredible. She started whining again, the whining turned into howling, the howling turned into barking, the barking turned into screeching (like a scream) and then we got a barking screeching howling noise all together. She woke the kids up (i'm suprised she didn't wake the neighbours up)but I refused to let them go downstairs to her. We all sat on the bed with the tv on to drown out the noise. 45 minutes this went on for, it was incredible!!! Finally she went quiet so after 5 mins I went downstairs only for her to start whining again. I ignored her and got the kids breakfast. It only took a few mins for her to be quiet again and when she was I let her out her crate. There's nothing wrong with her, it was all for attention. Is this the start of things to come? I hope she soon learns that it won't get her any attention or she'll be locked in the garage - LOL |

Oh god, it's so annoying isn't it! Having a new puppy i can totally sympathise. He was in his crate last night sleeping in the kitchen and foolishly my OH decided to get another beer..and woke him up! I was in bed and he started screaming as loud as he could (with intermittent whining and barking) and it went on for about an hour before he fell asleep again. I could hear it through my ear plugs 2 floors above him!! Not impressed. Good on you for ignoring her, so tempting to go and get them just to shut them up!! |

| welcome to the adolescent crazies! (She's about 8 months, right?) This is when they forget EVERYTHING they have learned, and sorely test your patience. Good luck! |

mine are awake at anywhere from 5-6 AM every morning. They don't care if it's the weekend and the humans could sleep in, they just know it's breakfast time!! But once fed, they all go back to sleep...........and we can't!!! Xara has a bark that is louder than any dog I"ve ever owned and it goes straight through you. It's deep, yet shrill and I swear she knows just what corners to aim it towards to make it sound that much louder echo-ing though the room. |

It isn't indicative of things to come if you are consistent and patient. She was testing you and you passed (but not according to her rules). Mine have all done that at one time or another (usually worse in adolescents which is for girls usually 8 - 12 months). If you ignore you will end up with a dog that will go into their crate and be quiet whenever you want them to. Ringo is wonderful in a crate and he now knows it is quiet time to sleep. Ever so often he will test will a bark or a whine, but usually just one and those are getting very rare. I can even put mine in a wire crate on the floor of the training center and they just go to sleep or lay quietly and watch while I train one of my dogs. I have had people comment about how good they are will tons of chaos going on. The key though is never ever take them out when they make noise, no matter how hard it is wait for a quiet moment. By the way, dogs tell time better than people and they have no concept of weekends. So, out routine is get up at 5 am and let the dogs out to go to the bathroom. Come back in a get breakfast. Go back to bed. I even do that on the weekdays as I don't have to be up and at work until 8 am. They no the routine and have become slugs about sleeping in in the morning. If you haven't ever seen Lady or the Tramp or it has been a while, I recommend you rent because 1) it is a good movie, but 2) you will laugh your head off at the first 15 minutes are so of the movie as it depicts this morning problem better than any other movie. Whoever wrote the screenplay knew dogs. |

I know you say she has never done that before and you do the same thing however...we are getting closer to daylight savings time so the sunlight is different now in the mornings as we get closer to changing our clocks... Blitz we have had no problems with cuz he just loves sleeping...however I have noticed where before on week days we get up at 6:20am Donner is now wanting to get up at 6am...Even though I don't have to get up on the weekends the dogs don't let me sleep past 6:30am, 7am if I am lucky! |

The day light doesn't make any difference in my house. We have external blinds on all of our windows that get closed at night time which leaves the house in complete 100% darkness until I get up and open them. I don't expect her to sleep longer just because I want a lie in, I still get up at 7ish to let her out and feed her but usually when I crate her again so I can go back to bed she doesn't make any noise but, yesterday she did and she is also howling again this morning. I got up at 7.15, let her out for a pee, fed her and let her out again for another pee and a poop. She's now back in her crate screeming blue murder. I'll go down when she's quiet. I will NOT give in. |

| I agree don't give in....it might not be the light but maybe she can hear birds out this morning...I actually noticed that around 6am I could hear the birds outside...a few months ago when we got up for school I had to turn the outside light on to let the dogs out and the birds were not making noise, but now the birds are a chirping! |

Too funny. Joey actually "sleeps" from 11-12 at night till 8ish. Maybe she's up before that but she doesn't make any noise until she hears us up and about, unless we leave that too long. She seems to sleep more than most of your guys pups though.

| We've got a crazy schedule here. For 7 out of 14 days, I work the night shift, which means I sleep during the day. The other days, I sleep at night like a normal people do. Once Gator was old enough to hold it for prolonged periods, he sleeps when I do. He sleeps in, until i (we) get up. The only time I get woken up is if someone comes to the door, like the UPS man. No routine or schedule at our house, due to my crazy work schedule, but Gator adapts to our schedule, guess he's just happy to be with us. |

Norm goes in his crate at 8pm ish, sometimes later, I let him out between 6 - 7am
I know what aaggggrrrrhhhh SHUT UP!!!!!! feels like, fortunately those days didn't last too long, I'm always quietly hopeful it stays that way but any day now I expect adolescence to throw me challenges.
