My GSP lives inside. I'm sure lots on here do to. He also sleeps on the couch and on the bed. He plays hard and gets muddy and stinks regular so with this being said he also gets regular baths, with oatmeal shampoo. Is this common for everyone else ?

Mine are indoor doggies too, though they love playing outside....

I know you don't want to over wash cuz it will dry them out....

I gave mine a bath Dec 20 and then I gave him a bath Feb 12.....so it seems I do it about every 2 months....unless he gets into something outside....Mine is mostly white so I can tell when his white gets dingy and he starts to smell its time for a bath....

Baira comes to the stables with me every day (when she's not in heat) and she absolutely stinks so is bathed regularly.

Xara has had one bath in the 7 months of her life, and then only because she climbed in the shower with my daughter when she was home for Thanksgiving and Andria decided that if she was going to take a shower with her she may as well soap up while she was in there LOL

Cooper is also a house dog and sleeps on the couch and beds. He gets a bath once every 1-2 months. This works fine for us now, but when the snow melts and we're left with lots and lots of mud, I know we'll go through a period of more frequent baths.

We only bathe our dogs when they get particularly dirty or when we notice they need one. Especially the whole skunk spray... I hate that smell! The cats get sprayed more than the dogs, and try giving a cat a shower! You'd think they'd learn after the first time! Lol...

Our dogs are put in conformation shows quite a bit, so the dogs being shown are bathed the night before a weekend of shows. If we are bathing and a dog is comnig along for Agility at the same site they get a bath too. This cycle can range from every weekend to some periods where we don't show for several months. For the dogs not in the show, we rotate them through the bathing process along with the dogs being shown so they do not go long periods of time without a bath -- typically 1-3 months -- even the Dachshund (and if you know Dachshunds, they can get pretty stubborn about things like baths . . .).

We have general shampoos (oatmeal is one, I also like the smell of Fresh Pet) to some more specialized shampoos we'll use on the show dogs to help avoid the pitfalls resulting from regular baths for the show ring.

I am allergic.. all my dogs get bathed twice a month whether they think they need it or not. As for muddy feet and underbellies.. I have a shamwow and I get that damp and do a wipe down before they come back into the house.

I show two of mine regularly and the third is a therapy dog so they get baths pretty regular. Belle has sensitive skin so I use an all natural puppy shampoo. I often use the same thing on Ringo and Halo. I am going to try Murphy's soap as I have had lots of show folks recommend it. It too is all natural and smells lemony. It has citronella in it too so it helps with bugs. I am going to try it on Ringo tonight. I will let you know how it works.

I've read this too. Let me us know how it works, how much to use, etc.

Bev, is that Murphy's Oil Soap? I use that for cleaning my woodwork & my dogs LOVE the smell! They will rub themselves all over anything that has been cleaned with it. :)

Oh & mine get bathed when they are stinky, which isn't too often... unless it is nice weather & they sneak into the horse pasture next door. **gag!**

Ive been bathing Dax fairly often just so he is used to it and doesnt put up a fight when hes big. We have a walk in shower as well, so anytime Im showering Dax will usually show up for a few minutes and stand in the water. I also have to wash him kinda often because almost every time he pees, he doesnt move his front legs far enough away and he pees on them....gross haha

I bathed the rest of my gang last night as Ringo has a show coming up and Halo just thought she needed a bath too. I used the Murphy's last night on both dogs. It is Murphy's Oil Soap (the original formula). It is concentrated and gives directions for mixing with one gallon. I just scaled that down and did 1/4 c Murphys to 1 c water. That was enough to bathe both Ringo and Halo. It does not suds up like puppy shampoos do, but really got them clean and lemony smelling. It was much easier to rinse out as well. It also did not strip all the oil out of their coat and the texture stayed rough like it is supposed to. When they dried their coats were really shiny. So far, I really like the results and the price is good too.

I will definitely have to try that, I love the smell & so do the dogs. Maybe they will like being bathed if they like the shampoo I use for them. :)

Walmart probably has it, but if not their just about any grocery store carries it. Be sure you get the original formula as they have several products.

Are you talking about murphy's oil soap that I use for my saddle or is there another murphy's oil soap?
