Thanks for your answers. I thought that's what it was. I considered getting one for Baira. She is generally very good, comes back when called, at least on the 3rd or 4th call anyway but twice now she has gone after a rabbit and no amount of screaming in the world was distracting her from the damned rabbit. I thought people would be shocked (no pun intended) if I said I was thinking of using one but I guess it's used more than I think. I would just like her to come to me on the first call and i'd like to be able to stop her when she's on the run after something. I haven't been able to find one for sale here and i'm beginning to wonder if they are available. What is the best type to buy?

This is the one I got because I didn't want the beeper and I wanted something waterproof and with at least a mile range.  It also expands to three dogs and so far I have used it with two dogs.  It isn't cheap, but is a little cheaper that some of the pro models and does just great. I have been very happy with this one.

I have a Tri-Tronics G3 and an Unleashed Technolgies model.

First off, the collar is not to be used as a punishment device. It is used to reinforce known behavior. Not coming until called multiple times means they do not know the command or are choosing not to obey.

Both of my collars have non stimulation modes, the G3 has a buzzer and the Unleashed vibrates. These are paired with the come command, I can give the command with the buzz/vibrate and the response is to come.

Do not think the collar will magically teach or make the dog do the behavior you wish. It does not do that.

Sorry to preach but more damage can be done with the collar than good sometimes. Seek help from a NAVHDA chapter or hunting trainer with collar conditioning. It will pay in the long run. Every dog I have or will have will be collar conditioned. And crate trained :)

This is the one that I have.  Tritronics Sport Basic G3.  1/2 mile range.  I have never had a problem with the range.
