Hey Schatzi!! I too went thur a though pee pot phase when I was 13 months in my new Forever Home. I  HIGH LIFTED my leg and straight shot pee directly into all my Mom's in house potted plants. not a drop on the floor and killed them all. She gave up her potted plants and still kept me. There is hopeLove Rocky.

I might get bashed for suggesting this, and I'm not a fan of them myself, but there is a product out there called a "Wiz Dog".  It's a plastic tray with a removable grid.  You put the potty pad on the try and lay the grid on top.  I own a dog walking business and a couple clients have them for their smaller dogs when they go on vacation.  I'm a staunch believer that potty training is a 1 step process not pads then outside.  Like I said, just putting it out there.

Yes, maybe worth a try putting a puppy training pad in the house - some are scented to encourage them to use it - at least she will be peeing on the pad which is absorbant instead of on the floor/carpet

Have you considered a dog door? I have had one for over 20 years. It gives out onto a small kennel run, which is closed off from the yard. I lived with a partially incontinent dog for over ten years. She was incontinent due to nearly dying from pyometra at the age of two. She stayed in a kennel run during the day, a crate with newspaper and a pup rug on a grate at night. When inside and dog door closed, she wore doggy panties (kind of like for bitches in season, but with a thick pad). She had almost constant UTI's. I found it was VERY importnat to run cultures when she had a UTI, as we had to switch antibiotics.

Spring was just the sweetest dog. She went everywhere with the other dogs, but when visiting, would be crated when inside. She loved going on walks, playing, wading (she was a lousy swimmer.)

The dog door meant she could come inside and wander around some on weekends. It also means my 13+ year old girl can comfortably be left for long periods of time, if my schedule demands it. I find my pups practically housebreak themselves. They learn fast, to race outside and go - sometimes it is immediately outside the dog door, but that's OK.

They are not expensive to install. I also would rig the crate with some sort of grate/flooring, with newspaper under it, and a thick pad on top. Then, if she pees, she is not sitting in itl. And never fuss if she pees with excitement upon greeting people. It took my now 9-year old years to stop "sprinkling" when he saw someone he especially loved!

took her to the vet today just to make sure...well vet says its definitely not UTI or infection related. Vet is also at a loss for why this is happening...back to square 1 for the third time...it better work this time or maybe (money permitting) I'll have to build a kennel in the garage with an outside kennel attached and she becomes an outside dog...only time will tell...thanks for all the help/suggestions and listening to me vent

Glad to hear it doesn't appear to be medical reasons that will cost you more money...

Now take a big breath and start fresh. Remember what doesn't kill ya makes ya stronger!

I almost wonder if having a well behaved and potty trained older dog around would help. Maybe you have a friend that has a trained dog that you could borrow for a couple days to help show your pup how to do it right!

Hey splat
I have a 6.5 year old shorthair that I got when she was about 4 months old. I house trained her in 4 days and never had an accident in the house till the military shipped me overseas and she jumped from place to place for 4 months. Then I shipped her to Germany and when I got her she was somewhat of a wreck. Never had a problem the whole time she was being bounced around but when I got her back she seemed to go crazy and had a potty issue that took over 6 months to cure. Now I moved back to the U.S. and she is very growly/protective of the family. But thats another problem I am working to fix. The point is I have a house trained dog that the pup has lived with since she was 7 weeks old I had the same thinking as you thought it would make it easier but so far no luck. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Oh yeah...what doesn't kill ya...I'll be he-man by the end of this dog...LOL
how bout Lots of pain...no gain...LOL
Thanks
Nate

If it isn't medical, then it kind of sounds like you've been pretty stressed over not working & worrying about bills & she might have picked up on it. Some dogs are nervous pee-ers and you probably got more stressed about her peeing & that just escalated her stress, which made you more stressed, which... well, it's a vicious cycle, isn't it? Since she is able to hold it in her keenel at night it sounds like she just can't control herself when things get stressful for her. Hopefully with you going back to work & worrying less about bills your stress level will go down & maybe that will help? I hope so!

I definitely second the opinion about a dog door being the best invention EVER, by the way. Do you have a bit of yard you can fence in for them & put in a dog door? It might help. Good luck!
