My 9yr old neutered boy seems to be having problems. He's had s few accidents in the house right after he's been outside. I started to watch more closely, he seems to need several times to empty his bladder. We were at the vet's last night for shots so I had the vet check him over. On rectal palpation(he didn't like that) vet feel a mass. Took xray which didn't show clearly. I was rederred to a specialist for an ultrasound. Also doing blood and urine workup. Does anyone have any experience with this.

Last year my 10 year old had a serious prostate infection, damn near killed him. This was the second time around in the past 5 years. At the time the prostate became quite large, but after antibiotics took affect it receded. I had him neutered at the advise of my vet to all but eliminate further prostate issues. At least that was what I was told.

You said your dog was neutered and developed an enlarged prostate, so I guess it's not a cure all??

I got the cytology report from the vet yesterday. Its bad news, prostate cancer and any infection. He's on meds to treat the symptoms and I'm getting info on chemo althought I'm not sure that's something I want to do. I'm still getting over the shock of the news.

I'm so sorry. And I'm also a little surprised to see that it's happened in a neutered dog... as well as a little nervous. Rogan has been having something sporadic and very difficult to track down in his plumbing area over the last few years.... run through a bottle of antibiotics and it seems to get better. I had thought that it couldn't be prostate since he's neutered, but obviously I'm going to rethink that.
