I've always preferred the liver head and ticked with patches.  When I got Cooper, I wanted a girl, but we bonded instantly.  Then I got Penny, his sister 9 months later and oddly enough (and without any plan) they have almost identical markings.  She picked me.  I was just going with a friend to get his pup and couldn't resist this little girl that fell asleep belly up on my lap

I like my boy's blaze with the white snip at the top. However, it does make him look like he has a big head, which he does. One of the vets here at CU calls him "Big Nose Ugly Dog". That's OK with me as his nose sure can work!

Jen - Belle's nickname is Magnum Nose because she picks up scents from a great distance and is always right. She got the nickname from an old timer in the hunting dog training world here in Central Texas. I consider it quite an honor too.

Funny. With Max that blaze absolutely accentuates the snout! He snores, snorts like a pig with smelling something.

Yes, I consider it an honor as well. His NA test judges complimented me on his fantastic use of nose!

Ha, ha to Beth's post! (Moose1) I prefer heads with some white, whether the head be liver or black. I have had wide blazes, white/ticking on the muzzle and my 2-year old GSP has just a tiny white mark on her head and some dark ticking on her otherwsie black muzzle.

I have to say that I am partial to the black.

but then again... I am also of the opinion that Wachter is just the best male dog out there!

I have a biased preference toward the solid liver head.

I prefer the solid liver faces. When I acquired each of my boys, I had my choice of many, so choose the solid liver heads. Both are liver and white, spotted and ticked. People often ask how I got 2 dogs that matched. Kaiser, however, in his advanced years, has a great amount of white  hair on his muzzle and above his brows.

When Gator was a pup, and I had my boys out for a walk, a pre-school aged boy said: "Look mom, those dogs, they match. I bet they're wearing costumes. Yeah, they're wearing costumes".

When it comes time to get another GSP, I might want to get one leaning on the whiter side, but I guess it will depend upon what's available. I'm thinking about getting a female the next time.

I'm not fussed as long as it's liver and not black.

If I had to pick on visual traits only, which I would never do, I go with solid heads. Liver or black makes no difference.
