Navilla: It depends on the food, how rich it is and the activity level of the dog, and even the weather (cold or hot). Tessa (1.5 years) now gets 2 cups a day plus some fresh stuff mixed in, and a little more when she is more active (hunting etc).

I also heard with the bigger chested dogs that are more prove to bloat that it's a good idea to add the warm water and let it sit a couple minutes.  This way the food absorbs the moisture from the water and won't expand in their belly.

mine all get water on their food. Dave thinks I"m nuts but I told him it's much better on their bellies to have it moistened. I never knew thought it out to associate with bloat though, it's nice to know I was doing the right thing!

30 minute time-outs in his crate... it was the only thing that saved our sanity when Bo was a pup...

Hi Toni - I have a bowl called the Brake.  I used it on our fast eating puppy and it really helped.  I will bring it to work and you can pick it up if you want to.

I second timeouts in the crate, especially when they are getting overly tired.

The old wives tale says 1 year of a dogs life equals 7 of a humans.  Actually the 1st year equals 15 of a humans.  If you think about it, and if you break it down, it makes alot of sense during that first year.  Just think about the terrible twos and the destructive stage about 3-4 months.  About a year old and the rebel comes out and you think they forgot all the training.
