I use TOTW even when running hard, although mine get raw also, they just get TOTW when we travel & do very well competing/hunting on it. No issue with the 27% protein. I tried Innova, and while I like it, but dogs had loose stools. Canidae is good, but dogs didn't have the coats they do now on just TOTW & there was a lot more clean up. I have tried them all mainly because they are foods I carry or was interested in carrying, so my guys have been on TOTW, Canidae, Innova (regular and EVO, which I also liked too) Fromm (did not like! diarhhea and gas, my guys never get diarhhea), and Natures Variety (another I liked). Overall, for my pack at least (and 9 other in my "study group", 16 total) we got the best results from TOTW. |

Orijen large puppy at the mo. Will switch to Orijen adult when she's old enough. why? because it's the only decent dog food available with in a 50 mile radius. After researching dog food I had it narrowed down to 3 but the decision was made for me. She was on eukanuber when I got her and the difference in her coat and eyes since being on orijen is incredible. She gets some home cooked stuff aswel. |

I switched to Eagle Pack about 6 months ago & am very happy with it. Daniel has some food allergies that cause him to get nasty, yeasty, brown goo in his ears on most foods, so I have been trying for years to find a quality dog food that is good for them & that doesn't cause brown goo. Other than some gas issues, it is the best food I've fed them. Their coats are glossier & softer, Daniel's ears are goo-free & they seem to love the taste. I've tried Innova, Wellness, Pro Plan & a couple of others over the years, so I can't tell you how happy I am to not have to dig brown goop out of Daniel's ears every week & give him medicine to help with it! |

Ive been feeding my dogs Purina Pro Plan Performance Formula for almost 3 years with great results. I pay $38.99 for 37lbs. Ive been doing a good deal of reading on dog food and like most things these days there are 4,000 arguments in each direction. Purina Pro Plan specifically has lots of controversy. Some say you(me) are paying for advertising and promos and hoopla more so than the quality of the food. Others debate that as many top dogs have proven results using it. So who the heck knows. In any event though i have had no issues I have contemplated trying something else. There are a few web pages out there that rate dog foods on a scale of stars. Most of the holistic foods rate high. I don't know if this is truly due to better stuff in the food or just a hidden agenda from the holistic crowd. Anyway...a food that is rated pretty good across the boards is the Chicken Soup for the dog lovers soul. Cost in my area is $37 for 35lbs. About same as my Pro Plan....so i might give it a whirl this winter. Blue Buffalo is rated pretty good as well but does cost a bit more. |

Oh yea on a side note; a guy i work with feeds his GSP Ole Roy from Walmart for $18 for 50 pounds. His dog looks great, hunts great........and have always lived long healthy lives. So.......who knows; Average GSP 20lbs food per month (1 bag every other month) of Premium Food $240 a year or $3120 over 13 years. vs Same dog eating Ole Roay $108 a year or $1404 over 13 years. Maybe we are all big suckers! |

I should not Confess, But after working a PM shift as a nurse last night, I came home and read this thread. Oh Boy!!! The discription and stories of Dog food causing gas issues sent me right over the edge laughing that my sides ached. Oh Been Far East had to kick dogs out of the room the dog gas got so bad!! Zimbass had to drive the hunting Truck with windows open 20 dgrees at 70 miles to clear the cab from dog gas. Dirtysailor wins the prize for Dog gas humor just the way it was posted. Can't type it as tears of laughter is streaming down my face. Oh by the way in Nursing we call gas Flatulence!! Thank you for this thread it has made my week!!! You are GREAT!!! |

Yep, who really knows.
I remember years back when I made a change and went to Iams, the first thing I immediately noticed was the smaller piles the dog left when he had a bm. Significantly smaller too. So I believed, and still do, that the better foods offer more of what a dog uses and ultimately less that is shat out.....Just my $.02
I for one like less bm to deal with.......lol
and for those concerned about dogfarts........of all the dogs I have ever owned the shorthairs are the most digusting farters of them all....literally bad enough to move mountains, or at least anyone in the room! |

I had been using Natural Balance (I think that's what it was) Venison and Sweet Potato it was a a tad pricey I think 20 lbs bag for $46...It is a allergy/grain free food and it helped with the gas...we moved and the pet store I got it from is now a bit of a drive, plus I was told potato was a bit over uses in it where other veggies could have been used. Now I am trying to find a food at the pet store closer to me...I have not quite found one I like and Blitz has gas! He was quite the upset at our Super Bowl party last night, couldn't tell if people we moaning at plays during the game or at his gas! |

| The breeder recommended Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy food. When I went to the store, the rep suggested the Lamb and Rice version, which is supposedly easy to digest. I didn't notice much of a difference, but Koda was not very gassy. After reading some threads questioning the quality, I "upgraded" to Nutro Ultra Puppy, and she seemed to like it better, but about half way through the bay she got liquid diarrhea. Also, everytime she walked back from going potty she would fart as she was walking down the stairs. I immediately stopped and feed chicken and rice until she got better. She is now on Innova Puppy, which she likes, but some days her stools are looser than I would like and she has bad gas sometimes. I don't want to keep switching around, but if it doesn't get better I might try California Wellness Lamb and Rice to see if it's the chicken/turkey that is upsetting her stomach and giving her gas. |

| All of mine had sensitive stomachs when they were puppies, but if I had switched I would have had each dog on something different. So I toughed it out as it was only once in a while and after about 7 months all the sensitive tummy stuff went away. Now the only time I get sensitive tummies is if they eat something nasty. |
