Having his dewclaws may be an option I think about then, is it a big procedure when they are older? I know a lot of litters get them done when they are a few days old. I asked the breeder why she decided not to and she said the vet had advised her not to? Bit of a random question - I want to get a coat/blanket ready for when he arrives, just in case he gets cold (and because I'm sad and want to be soppy and buy him a coat)! What sort of size in inches should i buy, or does it vary massively from dog to dog? Thanks |

At this age he will grow out of his coat very fast...so a little big is ok... On this breed I am surprised that the vet would suggest not to do dewclaws....my guess is really the breeder wanted to save money so they didn't pay to have it done, but I could be wrong... |

Maybe that could be why. Can someone explain to me about vaccinations? I'm going to ring the vet in a week or so to have a chat with them, and the timings. How many are needed and what ages? I know that I can't take him out and about until a week after his second jab. |

It is a shame the breeder isn't doing the dews as it is much easier than when they are older. That said I would have them done even if he is older because a torn dew claw is painful and sometimes hard to heal. It is also a very vulderable spot for dogs that are as active as a shorthair and will likely get injured again and again.
As for vaccinations, here is a link to a pretty good description. I do not know anything about the standards for the UK or what is required though so you need to talk to your vet too.

The vaccine that seems to cause the most problems is the leptospirosis. Allot of dogs will react to it. I do not give it to my dogs because they are not in areas where they will be exposed. With the bordetella (kennel cough) I only give the vaccine because Belle (my oldest) had a reaction to the one given in the nose. The vet told me she normally gives both as they cover different things with some overlap, but for boarding purposes in my area I only have to do one of the other. Again, check with your vet to be sure of what is required by law or needed for area. |

Awww he's gorgeous, and yes looks full of mischief. You're right about the docking, my first pup has his tail, but my second is docked and you have to have the full DEFRA paperwork from the breeder. You can only get a dog docked with a valid licence to prove that you intend to work it. And yes, can't show a docked dog over here. Texas Belle, you're right, a friend has a Viszla and he kept cutting his full tail on door frames, walls, anywhere and they'd find blood everywhere and the tail never healed (they have such whippy full tails) so had to get it docked when it was 8 months old and it wasn't pleasant. I'm definitely pleased to be getting a docked one, their tails wreak havoc with cups on tables!!!! Good luck, hope it goes well when you view him and look forward to more pictures. |

Just a quick question - I don't know as I haven't seen him yet, but does that look like an umbilical hernia? What else could it be?
Bit of a silly question, I just thought it was a little too high to be his penis? |
