I looked at TSC's online catalog and those babies were a bit pricey. I've always built my own permanent pen but would rather be able to move this one considering our layout here. Plus the pup will only be spending a minimum amount of time out there anyway.
Summer pups are great fun. This will be my 6th GSP since I was in my early 20's, all being single dogs. I have been dogless the past 2 years and am giddy about getting another buddy. My 2nd hardhead, lol, was the best dog , and birddog a man could ever ask for. I think a man is lucky to have even 1 in a lifetime like Caesar was. It was hard for the following dogs to live up to his standards. Since all have been Liver with ticks and saddles, we are going to get a white pup. I think this will help me differentiate this pup and help me just let it (have pick of the litter so not sure which sex we're going with) be itself, with me coaching it to be the best it can be.
I so miss all the little things, the walks, the hunts, playtime, all the goofy things they do that makes them what they are.
We lived in town, a mixed neighborhood of ill respute when our kids were small. Now Caesar was 80 lbs of a tuned dynamo. But with the kids he a gentle giant. He would follow them down the street, several blocks away, to play, go sledding.....and we never felt apprehensive about it because he tagged along and would never have let anything happen to them. Because he was one of them. Then he and I would turn around, drive north for a couple of hours and spend the day walking for Pats, or in the fields Pheasant hunting. All my Shorthairs were great, but Caesar might have been my once in a lifetime dog.
I can't wait for the next phase to begin. |
