it pours.

Off on an emergency trip to the again here. Sniper, my male springer, woke up this morning with diarhea, if it was just that I wouldn't panic, but what is coming out is pure, bright red blood!!

He's acting fine other than this, but of course there is something not right with my boy. The only thing that's been different is that he's been getting cooked meats, and raw veggies on his normal dog food along with fish oil 1000mg, vit e 400 IU daily, CQ10 50mg daily and that's it.

He eats veggies all the time, and has never had any type of reaction to anything I've ever given him to eat so I am not sure that's it or not!

UGH! they sure keep us hopping dont' they?

Oh no! Poor Sniper baby... Let us know how he is and what the vet says. Good thoughts sent your way. You have been through enough lately... God bless you and your pack.

well it appears that he has a touch of irritable bowel syndrome and colitis happening (although I always thought those two things were pretty much the same?), anyhow, he's on flagyl for his intestines to hopefully settle them down, and he got two kanamycin tablets to hopefully stop his bloody runs.
They did bloodwork just to make sure all levels are good because the vet was a bit alarmed at the amount of blood he is pooping out but they don't expect it to show anything unusual. If I was more concerned that he'd perhaps ate something he shouldn't have we'd have x-rayed his belly too, but he's really not a chewer so I wasn't too concerned about that.
Vet said hamburger/rice diet for a few days and then back to his normal dog food and off the veggies/meat diet as evidently Sniper cannot handle that type of diet. Rest with as little stress on him as possible for a few days and keep an eye on him.
sure did scare me to see all that blood coming out of him!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with your poor boy! Brown rice is actually better for them than the white stuff if you have any.

our oldest dog maddy has a fairly sensitive stomach, so she eats burger and brown rice pretty often. All of our dogs love it when they get to eat it. He should enjoy it alot haha (better than lousy dog food any way haha). If you store it in the fridge its sometimes nice to warm it a little if hes not to sure about eating it cold. Glad to hear its nothing to serious. Hope hes feeling better soon!.
