| Once your dog gets in the habit of "if I don't eat my food, then my people will add some yummy goodies to it" , it's hard to get out of it, IMO. I'm in agreement with those who leave the dish down 20 minutes and the remove it if it's not gone. Maybe your puppy doesn't like the food that you're feeding? The food that I feed has veggies and fruit as ingredients. |

| I second what MegC and bravepoint have said. If you are not careful you will create a little food monster who will control you at dinner time. You will always be trying to tempt your dog to eat because she will have learned that if she is picky she gets something yummy. I use the 15 minute rule, then I put the food up until next dinner time. None of my dogs are picky or finicky eaters now, but Halo was when she was a puppy. It didn't take her long to figure out if she didn't want to miss a meal she needed to eat. Once they are eating then if you want to add yummy treats that is fine. Mine really like sardines, spinach, sweet potatoes, salmon, cottage cheese, carrots, etc. |

I only give baths when the dogs are stinky or really dirty. Mostly I just wipe them down with a damp towel. Even the dogs I show regularly do not get a bath that often. For them I use the wet towel and then spray them with a mink oil conditioner. Makes their coats shiny and doesn't soften them too much. GSPs are pretty clean dogs unless they role in something nasty. As for the deer poop, good luck. Mine still love it. I console myself by remembering that deer eat grass, etc and the poop isn't really that bad. |

ah deer poop eater....hmmmm, lots of deer behind my house ( I feed em after I'm done hunting, so theres lots of poop ha) Dax went crazy and couldn't walk past a pile without trying to eat it....Now he acts like its not even there. I don't know what changed in the past few weeks but he doesn't mess with it anymore? Maybe after being around it more often Wyatt will ignore it? So this is gonna sound really really nasty, but If anyone hunts near you guys...you want to watch him also, as he'll most likely find a gut pile if there's one around. Unfortunately when Dax was only 9 weeks old I had him up to my friends house to help look for a light cover he lost in the woods while fox hunting....Dax found the gut pile of his deer...and before I realized what was going on, he had already sampled a little bit!!!!! uggggggghhh, NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!! His breath smelled for days and I was brushing his teeth 2 times a day to try and get rid of the smell. It is about 100 times worse than eating deer poop! I don't know what it is about dogs wanting to eat the nastiest stuff! |

Oh you should see how much fun we used to have with old nasty gut piles back when we were hunting, as archery season started early and continued through grouse season... nothing like hosing out a crate @ 4am from a dog sick at one or both ends...
And aren't deer, elk, and horses pez dispensers?
Our dogs have hoovered up their share of grouse guts while we protested also. However, at least I know that's fresh, and supposedly waaaaay back in the olden days the dogs got the guts as a matter of course. |

Well ... we've got a dog poop eater, and both dogs will dine on deer poop in the forest. I can live with the deer poop -- it's the dog poop that grosses me out |

You don't have to bath this breed very often matter of fact too often and you will dry out their skin and cause problems. If they roll in poop go ahead and wash them, otherwise just wipe them down... I don't think there is a way to get dogs to stop eating poop, LOL! We have horses and they just love the stuff and I console myself too says well the horses only eat grass, hay and grain so it is healthy poop! Blitz tries to fins the cat poop in the barn too and I am sure he has found some but we do tell him no on that if we catch him. |

| I guess it is all relative. Thankfully, none of mine eat dog poop, but they love deer poop. |
