Currently we are feeding our almost 11 week old pup named Lyra "Orijen Puppy Food" as that is what the breeder was feeding but the nearest store is 45 miles away. What is something comparable that we could switch to?

I believe somewhere on here talking about food it is mentioned that to get good quality food you look for the main ingredients to be a type of meat and not a meal (chicken meal).

Make sure you save some of what you have been feeding so that you can gradually mix in the new food with the old food. Like a 1/2 and 1/2 thing and that helps them adjust to the change.

I kept Wolfgang on puppy food until he was about 7 months old... I used this: http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/products/puppies/dry_food/large_breed_puppy_formula/

It's a really good food at a very good price point.

We are switching now from Diamond (breeder's food) to Purina (vet's recommendation) with our 13 week old Queen.  So far , so good.

I typically keep mine on puppy food until about 6 months and then switch. I use the Innova Puppy Food and feed three times a day. The timing on when I switch to adult and reduce to twice a day depends on the dog. With my last puppy, Ringo, I switched him earlier than I did the girls mainly because it was easier to feed all three the same thing. There are several threads on the forum that deal with food and feeding so you might want to do some looking.

I am doing 3 feedings with Blitz but he is on an adult food already (almost 7 months old)....I was wondering if there was a point I should just go to 2 feedings....In the past with my boxer I never did 3 feedings always just 2....sometimes when we leave the house in the afternoon (like go over to my parents house) I forget to bring his lunch. Luckily they have a dog so I sneak some of her food for him. It would be nice to go to 2 times a day! Probably not till after a year though right?

I switched Ringo to twice a day around 7 or 8 months. If it were up to him though he would eat 5 times a day. That boy is always hungry, but he is a good weight. A little on the lean side for showing, but just right for field work.

I hear ya on the wanting to eat all the time! Blitz wants food any time we walk into the kitchen cuz he will go right to the cabinet with his food in it and stare. Since we are getting the puppy soon I think I will keep Blitz on 3 times till the puppy is old enough to go to 2 times...that way they can get fed at the same times and no one is left out of a feeding!

I feed pups 3 times a day then down to 2 about 5 months then at about 6 to 7 months change to one free feed, they have food always available (during the day) I put enough food down they can eat it whenever they want.. there is always food left over I have never had a dog over eat after like 6 months of age before that age they seem to overeat if given the oppertunity after 6 months they seem to know their limits and quickly realize the foods always available they need not scarf it down. Of course they always get dry food as well if they were given a treat such as wet food or a different type of food I am sure they would over eat just because it was somethig different, if they start looking a little heavy dont neccesarily mean its because they are overfed means they need more exercise, give them more dailey exercise and they quickly come into shape
