I had one of our puppy buyers from our last breeding email excited because she found an ad I had posted about a litter I just had from the same dam and sire... I told her we had no litter and that I didn't post anything... She sent me the link its to kijijji.com or whatever that place is and someone is using Bailey's pedigree AND photos. I am thoroughly angry right now. I have no idea how to find out who this person is and if I email them I have no idea what to say! Please help because this is fraud and if they register the litter under her I have no idea what could come from that. Mostly I would like to know how and why they picked my dog!!!  |

Oh Gosh! So sorry to hear this. I have no idea what to do except maybe contact the registering kennel club(AKC,UKC,ect) and maybe contact a lawyer. If they have an ad they must have contact info listed.
It's funny (odd funny) there was,not to long ago, a poster afraid of listing his/her dog's info in the fear of this exact thing happening. Interesting coincidence.

I think I would contact the AKC and any other registry that you have your dogs registered with and let them know. At least that might be a way of preventing them from registering their puppies falsely. You could also contact the host for the website and let them know what is happening. Allot of host companies will pull down websites or investigate as they want to keep their reputation clean.
Any idea where they got the information to start with? |

I will call the AKC tomorrow and let them know what is going on... I just hope I don't have a huge fight against me in proving that they aren't from my dam  Their ad is on www.kijiji.com and there is no contact information. You can only send them an email from the site so it doesn't give you an actual email address or contact information. They live in Cheney, Wa and I live in Ellensburg, Wa so about 3 hours away. All my pups are in Western or Central Washington none of them are in Eastern Washington (I know this because I keep in contact with the families that have them). I have no idea how this happened. We got Bailey from a friend of our that ran her in agility, hunting, and bred her when he got diagnosed with cancer and only had three months to live he wanted her to go to us. So I can't really call him up and ask him if he knows of anything. The only thing I can think of is if his paper work could have gotten stolen after his death or if one of the families that has one of our pups has had stuff stolen. I am seriously at a lose. We are wanting to do another breeding because we have had numerous people contact us wanting one of our pups, but this is putting me in a position that I really never imagined I would be in. I cannot believe what some people will do. I will contact the AKC and a lawyer but I would LOVE to contact them and go over take a look at the puppies, dam, sire, and then serve them papers to see them in court for fraud on papers AND for back yard breeding... |

I would definitely answer the add as a perspective puppy buyer & go look. I'd then ask lots of questions as to the dams lineage & see what they say.........
Don't blame you for being angry, I would be furious! Hope you get to the bottom of this, curious to know as to what they think they were doing using your dog. Also as to why they didn;t admit the female wasn't who they say. |

| I too would contact the person posing as an interested party. Go to their house, get their names and phone number etc. and THEN I'd tell them who you are and that you fully intend to prosecute if they do not remove the ad and if they have false papers hand them over to you. Have your cell phone ready to contact the police should need be to enforce that you mean what you say. |

| I agree with Melb except for me I would go 1 step further and bring your dog with you kenneled in the back of the vehicle. Dont tell them you have a dog then at the end ask them what you think of this dog you have in your truck and bring her paper work with you. Thats when I would say you would be contacting the police and a lawyer. I wouldnt even give them a chance to pull it because they will just do it again with another breed and somone elses dog. |

I wonder if they even could AKC register the pups being sold?
The dam presumably belongs to you, and unless there has been a transfer of ownership on record, no one else could claim to be the breeder. The AKC would see that discrepancy right away, wouldn't they?
I am quite sure that fraud like this has been going on forever. At least now, we have DNA testing, but AKC numbers are available in catalogues, on-line and smart crooks can simply go through the trash at shows and steal stuff. And think of all the bitches shipped to be bred where accidental breedings might have happened or another male used...
But there is relatively little money in it. I mean, for the average person just wanting a nice companion, you coud just make up dogs' names and fake accomplishments and register the dogs with the Fido Kennel Club and charge virtually the same amount of money. People will pay tons for hybrid designer dogs, after all.

Okay so here is what has happened so far:
I have contacted my aunt that is a lawyer and she says I can press charges for this. I have also contacted the people who are using my dogs pedigree and stats and am going over this next week to take a look at the pups. I have already contacted the Cheney police and filled them in on what is going on. Bailey has already been DNA tested and if need be they can just do it again (with my horses when a foal is born the AHA requires you to send in their hair for proof of breeding and the AKC should start doing something like this... I know thats probably impossible with dogs...) So I will go over there and when I show up at their place ask them as many questions as possible get all of their information I will "leave" to think about it and then return serving them papers for a court date for fraud on which they will have to comply to or be in contempt. Right now I am just furious that people are stupid enough to do this. Because honestly its outrageous and back yard breeding if not a puppy mill (which I have a slight worry that I might be walking into one of those ) So this next week should be really interesting. I am pressing charges for fraud because people need to learn that this is NOT okay to do... Buy your own damn dog, earn your own damn stats, and fricken be a honest person...
OH and they can register the pups with the AKC because they have ALL my information...
I don't like to be in the middle of drama ever and I am not the type of person who when is made raises their voice or enjoys picking on the under dog for a fight. BUT the one thing I do for sure live by is "I do not fight to win, I fight to kill" so whoever these people are that decided to mess with my dogs and I will be going down for good  (sorry that vent made me feel a little better) |

| make sure when this is all done that you have names of anyone who purchased a pup from this person too. This way you maybe can contact them and inform them that if they file those AKC papers they are comming fraud also! They may wish to sue this person for the cost of the pup since he misrepresented the entire litter. |

If they were ever to attempt to sign AKC stuff (or any stuff), pretending to be you, that would be forgery. As to the AKC stuff, they could also be suspended by the AKC, perhaps for life. You should definitely contact the AKC and let them know what is up.
Fraud, forgery, etc. are crimes as old as the hills. I still do not understand why people even try it as regards dogs. They are not going to make any more money than they would if they just made names and registries up! |

Sorry, yes all sires and dams could be DNA tested, as could their pups. However, currently the AKC only requires it for "frequently used sires" (and dams, too, I think) and for frozen or chilled semen. It is also used by AKC inspectors visiting "high volume" breeders.
I know for a fact that in Costa Rica, where I co-own a dog, that he had to be microchipped before he was registered there. |

| I will defiantly contact the families that have bought dogs from these people. This is not what I wanted to be dealing with the week before Christmas. BUT gotta do what I gotta do. I will be calling the AKC in the morning and talking it over with them and filling them in on what all is going on. I will keep you all in the loop.
