Where I am (Central Texas) a good GSP goes for $900 and up, even for pet quality although many breeders give a discount for pet quality.

Bev Quarles, the Pointer Sisters (Belle and Halo), the Outlaw GSP (Johnny Ringo) and the little Princess (Fauna)

Jeff,

I think this is a really difficult question to answer without more information regarding the dam and sire of the litter, health certifications, the reputation of the breeder, etc, etc, etc.

You'll probably get an extremely wide range of answers from everyone on the board depending on what they were looking for at the time of purchase.

For example, I paid $450 for my GSP...My expectations were not extremely high...I have little to no desire to field trial, I hunt for recreation, my pup is basically a family dog, hiking companion, and "meat" dog in that order.  For what I paid, I've been pleased.  However, I would have no problem paying much, much more if I liked and trusted the breeder and the pedigrees/personality traits of the parents.  It just so happened that our breeder didn't charge me very much at the time.

Over here (UK) they seem to go for about $1000 regardless of quality.

I paid $700 about 1 1/2 years ago...no regrets. Like anything you can spend as much as you want, even on a dog.

The prices quaoted are about right.
Want to know what a waste is ? Go price a yorkie or a yorkiepoo.AND they DON"T have clearances and NO guarentees and they are know for having genetic issues.
Gundog breeders are getting cheated - if you ask me. LOL.

Pups from litters that I considered ranged between $ 600-800. They came from lines proven in the show ring or hunting venues or both, and with health clearances and guarantees. Well, except for one breeder who asked $ 700 with no clearances and only verbal guarantee, whereupon I no longer considered buying from him.

My girl was $600 and she has both field trail champions and show champions on both sides as well as german shown and titled dogs including her grandfather who has all three international field trail titles. With health clearances on both parents and a health guarantee.

When looking at the price and comparing it to a pedigree, the most important dogs to look at are the 1st 2 generations.

Here in Montana they range anywhere from $250 to $400 for pointing dogs. This includes shots, docking, health clearances and x-rays of parents and guarantees. You are usually required to provide a x-ray of the pup's hips to the breeder shortly after aquiring pup.

I bought Blitz for $450 this summer and I thought that was a great price for these dogs....then my friend just got a female GSP up in WI somewhere for $250...I don't know the pedigree of her dog but I know her boyfriend is gonna hunt with her....Blitz's parents were hunting dogs, but I don't know if they had any titles or not, I wasn't to concerned about it cuz we just wanted him as a pet.......

Pixie, several navhda kennels are at 1200.00 with a few at 1500, and have long waiting lists.
Just went through an ordeal (well I believe it is still going on) with a guy that paid 1500 dollars because the kennels webpage said they were a navhda kennel. The person is a member, has never tested a dog. The parents of the dog had no health clearences, no titles. Now the guy can't get his papers on the dog. I feel for him, but buyer beware. I believe it when I see it!

I guess I am out of touch on prices.
NAVHDA, I hope, will reprimand this kennel in some way.

That's a completely normal price for around here. And it is not from a NAVHDA kennel.

I would think $ 1500 is the price for a started dog. $ 3000 for a finished one. Something like that. But $ 1500 for a pup? Wow.

I did notice that females run a little higher than males.
